Is this happening in your areas?

Generally that does not happen anywhete around here. Most of the time it happens in the middle of the night, not middle of. The day

that just makes me mad. the city must be broke to perform a $1k test each time. There is no way they could be polluting the water. So my question is why is it that if they had a meter, they wouldnt be polluting the water but since they dont, they must be. those days are over but many a time.

I'm sure half the commercial guys are guilty. I got busted, paid a fine and did cs. They said it was stealing from tax payers. Then a week later I see the water dept flushing every hydrant on a block on they other side of town. Every hydrant was opened wide open and ran for 20-30 min each that's 10's of thousands of gallons. And I took 125. Its all crap.

Terry , please put the signature back. It's the rules, pretty much alls we ask of ya. Besides guys get work from having contact info.

Kory, I think your numbers are a bit off. 1/2 of the commercial guys are guilty? I would say more like 95% of them are guilty lol.

I think these guys were just asking for it though. There is a thing called 'keeping under the radar' though.

Aaaaah Nashville, a rape per day but yet they've got time for this. And the sad thing about this is there are thousands of morons who will see this report and thing the police have saved them from all dying from water contamination.

The water companies that charge outrageous fees or deposits contribute to this type of stuff too. Fees here in Indy are very reasonable. I'm sure it happens a lot but it's not worth the risk.

Some smaller towns have no plan in place for hydrant meters. That's where it happens.

Fizzy lifting water from Mt Lemon is what we use here in Tucson.

Here in Gwinnett County it is $150.00 PER DAY!! But you can use all the water you want. Or for only $650.00 a month you can use it any time you want. Other counties are completely different with meter rentals with an crazy deposit of up to $1000.00 which you will get back in 6 weeks, and they charge you per 1,000 gallons.

They broke the law, got caught, lied about. They make other companies look bad. Towns flush hydrants on a regular basis to keep sediment from building up.

I agree with you about the lying part.

Just did a job in a city we normally don't work in it was 15 driveways and sidewalks of foreclosed homes. when we get there the water was shut off and locked @ the street so we had no choice be to fill up at a hydrant. while waiting to fill tank a woman from the city pulls in along with a city cop. she says why are you stealing water I explained what i was doing and she said you must get a meter from the city or you will be fined she told me unhook my hose then took my adapter and you will get it back when you come to city hall for a meter.

I don't think I would have posted on a public board that you steal water.

Took your adapters, what happen to the part of the constiution that mentions illegal search and seizure? Cop preseant should have made the correct descion to not let her take, she has no feduciry cause or deputized powers to take it from you. And better yet , if the cop took it, he is screwd, he violate your civl rights, by taking from you. He possibly thought that it was used in the act of a crime, like I said he probaly violated your rights. Find out where it is call the local sherrif and ask him about you property, he will prbaly ask you the details of your seizure, tell him in detail, dont swat the taking water deal, if they were going to charge you, the cop would have either take you in and you bail out, or give you a summons for court, then you argue your case.

The big one if the girl from the city took it, wow. Call her department head and expain your situation, follow through with a letter to your mayor ar local BOrd of freholders, or what ever style of local governtment, be it county rep or whatever, fight this till youget a sorry from them.

Also how do they know how much water you took, was the quanity so much that it would warrant a felony, or a mistemeanor, even if the looked in your tank and approximated how much they thought you took, and dont let them force you to them how much, the burden of proof is all on there side, remember you are innocent till prven guilty.

The back flow issue almost never is a factor since the valve that opens the hydrant is well below grade, hydrant are meant to not have back flow per design, other wise you would have a vaccuum effect whenever some one turned it off.

And the more I think of it, she is almost extorting you buy telling you that you will not get it back till you come get a meter, THAT IS HORSE SHIT!, what if you never get the meter, will the forfiet and you lose all your rights to own the connection? WHAT EVER.

Was the "stealin" right, no, but they really have no right to take your meter FLAT OUT!

take a look at this page http://www.explainthatstuff.com/firehydrants.html read it it will tell you that water can not go down the hydrant.

Parts of a fire hydrant

Fire hydrants are just fire hydrants, right? Wrong! Here are some of the little details you might not have noticed:
  1. Operating nut on top of hydrant turns main water valve on or off
  2. Clapper valve just inside hydrant stops water from flowing backwards. Water can flow out of the hydrant into the hose but not in the opposite direction
  3. Metal body raises water to the same height as a fire engine's water inlet. This helps to stop fire hoses from kinking.
  4. Breakable bolts on base are designed to snap if a vehicle strikes the hydrant
  5. Safety chain stops nozzle caps from getting lost when hydrant is in operation
  6. Outlet nozzles have screw threads inside to which fire hoses can be securely attached

Wow, you have no concept of right or wrong, how a hydrant operates or the law. Theft is theft. Taking something used in the commission of a crime is not illegal search and siezure. If you hunt out of season, you loose your gun if you are caught, if you drive drunk your car is taken/towed away. If you are willing to break the law to do a job, you should be prepared for the repercussions. Hrydants need a back flow preventer for the very fact that the valves are below grade and do create suction when turned off.

Darn Theives !! I hate when people steal from municipalities.
