I have those big blue bowl filters on both machines on the trailer between the pump and tank and I have not had any problems that way, that is how the Hotsy dealer initially set it up but I put a larger hose and larger filter there as I felt and have been told that 3/4" hoses are not big enough and the bowl filter is about twice as large as the old filter.
There are many thoughts about filters and where to put them but I think that if I put a filter on the inlet of the tank it will slow down the flow to the tank where the pump pulls suction and even if the filter is partially clogged, it will still pull water until it is almost totally clogged.
I don't know if anyone has tested pumps to see how much suction they pull when running to see if it more of an advantage vs. the pressure that the residential or commercial water faucets have in comparison for water flowing through the filters and if it is better for the pump to pull water through the filter vs. water being filtered before the tank.
If there was some proof to either side, I will change my setup around for the best benefit but until some testing is done and some proof is out there, I will keep on filtering before the pump, just personal preference.
