My daughter and I had a discussion the other day . She had been punished from one activity for almost two months and the punishment just ended. I asked her "That wasn't so bad, was it?"
She replied, "If I could see the last day of punishment on the first day, punishment would never be so bad, because from the last day it always seems like it went by fast!"
I don't know how other Christians feel about this, but when things come along that I have no control over, I try to remind myself that, in the end, when it's all over it will not seem so overwhelming.
I think that is what people are trying to say. It doesn't take much to say it, but it takes quite a bit of faith to practice it.
