Heater coils vs Spot-Free water
Pure water "rinses the rust off" the inside of the heater coil,
polluting your ortherwise "spot-free" water, and
causing the coil to deteriorate WAY fast.. CRAZY fast.. like 2 years to blown from new !
Better to bypass the heater whenEVER you go de-I or RO water for rinsing.
Flip-side of the coin..
I have built pure water systems for manufaturing plants
..that HAD to have Hot pure water for making product..
2 units built in 1989 are still running on the same coils !!
but add $1500 to 2000 for the stainless steel version Sch 80
good news is you might NEVER have to replace it, and NEVER any downtime for coil issues.
Can you say.. "Long-Term-Low-Cost" !?
