Gooseneck Trailers

I really like my 05' Dodge Quadcab Longbed 3/4 ton truck.

My brother had a chipper truck full to the roof with chips and logs and chipper connected to it. One of the guys drove it with the parking brake on one day and burned out the clutch. I pulled it with my truck no problem.

When he took the truck over the scales, the weight of the chips and logs in the truck was over 4.5 tons and the weight of the chipper I am not sure of but with the weight of all that I was amazed that my truck would pull it as easy as it did and that was a little over idle, like at 1100 rpm's to move it down the road a little bit.

When pulling my trailer full of water it is around 6700 pounds, I average around 14 to 18 mpg on the highway. Empty I average 20-23 mpg on the highway. I really like the mileage compared to a gasoline truck. My GMC 3/4 ton longbed only would get around 10 mpg on the highway. It really sucked pulling that trailer.

Here are some pictures of my flatbed which we soon be adding another custom burner being built by Envirospec. Now will have the ability to Powerwash with all hot water @ 19gpm. I am forever getting closer to that guy Jim who does parking garage with 80gpm rinsing. I can powerwash at 19gpm's if I want to but I prefer the 3 guys doing around 6gpm's each at 3500 @ over 200 degrees. R2 wire is the minimum where using at this time. Just call me the big dog or the fat cow..chaching chaching

Forget it this bb will not let me post pictures.

If your not used to pulling with a gooseneck be prepared to buy a new tailgate...I've pulled one for years hauling farm equipment, and just the other day it happened. I unloaded my tractor, backed the trailer into its normal spot (after moving another trailer loaded with fertilizer my wife put in the way). Disconnected the goose, slammed the tailgate shut out of madness(cause the wife came outside & I was lettin' her have it for puttin the manure trailer in the way). Got in the truck to hook-up my 16ft. bumper pull pw trailer, trommped the gas & BAM- taco'd the tailgate.
Another possible cause for truck damage is un-hooking the trailer on an incline. If you don't raise the trailer high enough, you can easily scrape the mess out of your bed & tailgate, I haven't done that one yet, but I know it's coming.

I Hear You...

I had a part of that problem. I unhooked at a shop to have some work done on the trailer, and when I came back, the trailer had been moved. They used a forklift with a ball on one fork-end. When I went to get under the trailer, my tailgate edge just barely caught the latch handle, which was in the down position. The result was a ding in the top edge of my gate.

I had to raise the landing gear with the neck in my bed to catch the trailer, then slop some dunnage under the landing-gear, then dolly back down to make up for the chuck hole they had landed the thing in to start the mess.

To add insult to injury, it was a Saturday morning, and they close at noon, so they were toe-tapping at the gate, and had the nerve to complain to me about being so slow hooking up!

In their defense, they've known me for close to 15 years, and we have a congenial relationship, I just wasn't in the mood that particular day!
