General Pump Vapor Lock

I have a EZ 4040G General Pump that I just purchased about a month ago. A couple of days ago, when I went to shut down my engine, it seemed that the pump or engine locked up during shut down, and it came to a halt. The pull rope was tight on the engine, so I thought maybe the engine had locked up. I pulled the pump off of the engine and the engine shaft turned fine, even started and ran fine. I called GP today, and they told me that it may be a vapor lock within the pump. So, I pulled the head/manifold off of the pump, as instructed, but this did not relieve the pressure. By the way, all inlets and outlets are open without any unloaders or fittings on them. I drained the oil, and took off the side plate to view the connecting rods, everything looks fine. I opened any area that possibly could have pressure built up. I installed the pump back onto the shaft of the engine, and the I can not pull the rope on the engine. The electric start will turn the shaft and it looks as though everything functions properly, but there is pressure somewhere, because when I pull the rope on the engine, it should turn the crankshaft with ease. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

pull your spark plugs then turn it over and see if your cylinders are full of fuel by chance. The starter may have enough torque to turn it over but you cannot by hand

Take the pump back off and put 2 flat washers between the pump and the engine on all the bolts. There may be a clearance problem with the crankshafts.

I put everything back together, primed the system and everything seems to fine now. It must have been a vapor lock or something. I guess the positive part about this issue was taking my pump completely apart, so now I know how everything fits together. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. It's great to be able to reach out to the pros. Thanks again.

Paul, this is a direct drive pump, so when I took the pump off of the engine shaft, the engine turned over fine. It was when I would slide the pump back onto the engine shaft is when I couldn't turn the engine over by pulling the rope. For some reason, there was a lot of pressure on the crankshaft of the pump. Oh well, it's ok now. Please tell Mike I got it fixed and I appreciate his help.
