General pump hammerhead 20" nozzle size

Im going to revive this tread in hopes of an answer. I have purchased a 20" Hammerhead and it is being used with a 4GPM 3,000PSI unit. I am aware I should have purchased an 18" but I learned this after I purchased the 20 and it was to late to return or exchange it. Out of the box I was getting virtually no lift and it was like pushing around a large heavy broom. I went down a half size in nozzles from stock and it has helped but still doesn't really float. I has lift but not enough to glide, it's still like pushing or pulling a large broom. Any suggestions on getting more lift? I can't really afford to lose any speed as I am already at a snails pace.

Put wheels on it.

The stock nozzles on a hammerhead are #2's thats the smallest nozzles that you can get. There are 1.5's advertised but they are never in stock. Now that we got that out of the way. Going down a size in nozzles will make your problem worse. Your machine takes a #4.5 nozzle so by using the stock nozzles you are getting 3000 psi but losing flow, you will get 3000 psi with any nozzle 4.5 or under, your unloader kicks in at 3000. so you should be using 25025's. I used a 4 gpm 3000 psi machine and a 20 " hammerhead and it floats. If your machine has a injector built into the pump head, that is a problem also. You need full flow for proper lift off. you are probably only getting 3.4 -3.5 gpms out of your machine., because your nozzles are too small. And if you can't or don't remove your injector you lose even more flow. That's enough to cause drag.

Or... you could spend a few bucks and get a whisper wash ultra and be flying. Ever hear the expression, "lipstick on a pig" That applies to putting wheels on a hammerhead.

I have not.

Here it is.

The whisper wash is a better cleaner however if you already have a gp the wheels are the best way to go. I have two that I bought used for less than 100.00 on craigslist. Both had swivels that were shot. Converted them to mosmatic swivels. i also have an 18" gp that I bought8 years ago when I first started. Still going strong. I have a landa waterjet that works well. The surface cleaner is only part of the equation. Chemical pre treat and or post treat and technique are just as or even more important. Keep working at it.
