future of oil based products?

The Factory Rep for the product that I'm currently using visited me at my job site with some very interesting information.

He stated that any oil based coating material made after 1/1/05 will not be available for sale in any state from Maine to Virgina. This is as they are all scraping there individual VOC laws and accepting California's stricter regulations. He said it goes for sealers, stains, primers, industrial coatings,...etc.

Anybody know anything about this?

Anybody from california using oil based stain or sealer?

Hmmmm

So, if I'm reading this correctly. Comsumers will not be able to buy oil based stain/sealer in these states? So if I purchase an oil stain/sealer from say the south I would have an advantage over what the consumer could go to Sherwin Williams or Home Depot and buy. That could be a good thing right?

Wouldnt a law like that cover usage in addition to purchase?
