Fuel Tanks

I am noticing more and more in photos that people are using external fuel tanks to supply their machines and burners. What is the common size used for everyone. I see that Ron's units have them, and a couple of other units posted in the Rig Pic 2009 posts.

I am thinking of a 25-40 gallon diesel tank to eliminate the use of gas cans then use a 10-15 for gas and have all machines linked to this tank somehow

any ideas

here is one of Ron's and Kory's both are setup really well and seem to be really efficient with space.

A 14ft trailer with
1 8gpm skid,
3 18' summit reels
2 4k@4gpm cold units
1 pressure pro hot box
1 Big Guy
1 30' Steel Eagle
Wands, tool boxes,
330 gallon tote
3 Gas-diesel cans
15 Gallon chemical tank

Im running out of room and trying to be more efficient with the setup of my rig. Were going to rearrange everything again moving the tank back to the very middle, place the 8gpm unit at the very front, 2 cold water units behind that along with the hot box and chemical tank if there is room. I am thinking about having a slim but tall diesel and gas tank made for the burners to pull from and use the gas tank for the hot water units. I will still have to carry tanks for the cold water units but they go through very little in a night. I am tired of stopping for fuel and having to go back to the trailer to refill the tanks. Were trying to become really efficient so when we begin we can not stop till were done on a property hopefully saving time and money.

Any ideas on how to become more efficient>

I would keep the hotbox in front of the tires, less bouncing and vibration.

If you get the large fuel tanks, I would definately secure them to the inside walls of the trailer so they don't move.

I would try to keep the water tank over the axles, even if you hold only like around 150 gallons of water most of the time, that is more than what the hot water skids weigh so you are helping to balance the weight on the trailer.

were thinking of doing the hot water unit on the very front, then just behind that having the cold water units and hot box and hopefully a diesel tank. The chemical Tank will be behind that along with the tote, lastly leaving the hose reels on the very back of the trailer

We went with a 115 Gallon Diesel Diamond Plate Aluminum Fuel Tank with Dual 100 GPH @ 8-10 psi Diesel Fuel Pumps on a continuous loop. The Tank will not rust out. Light weight.

The only gas we have is the Turbo Twisters. Need only 6 gallons per day for those.

We are thinking about putting a 100 Gallon detergent tank on the Goose neck. I am concerned about the weight for the scales here in California. already over the 10 k limit.

Thought about the truck, however this would invite a pull over from what I was told by the Highway patrol. Apparently, people with external tanks in the bed sometimes use the RED Diesel to fuel their trucks and avoid paying the 46 cents per gallon tax.

I am sure everyone agrees on this board that THEY would never even think of doing that !

were going to really push a couple of new large accounts and see if we can get a couple of them. If were able to sign them well have to add 3-4 more units to the trailer and then 2 rigs or one large rig is not out of the question. We shall see what happens in the near future. I just don't want to be in the situation I have been in lately with only one rig and one hot water unit. When the motor went down we were sitting around for 3 working days. That took alot out of us because we could have been washing while I was in prattville or at least we would have had the option to wash. If we have 2 units running at the same time I have no problems fighting water supply when were capable of washing all of our accounts in less than 1 hour completely, even if it comes down to getting larger tanks and hauling water around town if needed.

I have spent the last couple of weeks looking over rig photos trying to see what I think is the best setup for us and gather ideas off of other rigs. The one thing that sticks out is the fuel cells because of the extra fuel and also the space savings of not carrying cans.

Has anyone ever had one built?
