Ethanol Treatment

Is anyone running any type of ethanol treatment in their gas tanks? Just asking because my boat motor had to have a carb kit. The dealership said it was from the ethanol. He told me it shreads fuel lines and showed me a write up in the paper about what it is doing to engines. He told me what type of fuel line to run but I did not write it down so I will ask again when I pick my boat up. Just wondering if and what people were using in their PW gas tanks!! I know sta-bil has a gas/ethanol treatment!!!

Most all the gas at the pumps now contain up to 10% ethanol. There is a sticker on the pumps. I always run 87 in my machines. Haven't noticed any difference in the performance yet but it does seem to burn a bit faster. Same in my Truck.

Ethanol will eat natural rubber and wil gum up quickly as well. It also is a absolute WATER MAGNET and is not good around watercraft at all.
Use a gas stabilizer if you are letting equipment sit for more tha 30 days. Fuel systems need to be made from stainless steel to prevent attack from ethanol. I would run a product called seafoam gas treatment thru your vehicles fuel system it works well. As far as gas hoses use a EPDM based line and you should have no problem.

This is a big problem for outboard engines as well and they need to fix this!! More and more people at my marina have had problems.

I have not seen any problems yet but the marina is trying to replace it with BP which has little to no ethanol...

I'm in corn country so ethanol is in everything. Ethanol also eats up fiberglass fuel tanks and runs it through the fuel lines. There is a class action suit against the oil companies about the marine problems. Small engines fuel lines go bad too as well as gaskets and float seals etc.

I haven't had much experience with it in boats and such but my Ranger was a dual fuel vehicle that was supposed to be made to be able to run ethanol. I even double verified with a couple dealerships and shops before I started using it. EVERY time I ran a tank through it would make the check engine light come on. I thought the concept of Ethanol was great at first until I actually used it. It decreases your MPG significantly. I was surprised. Not worth it to me at this point to use it....sorry.

Sad thing is it actualy costs MORE and uses MORE energy to make ethanol for vehicles than it does to refine crude. Also it drives the cost of anything made with sugar (sucrose) up since ethanol has driven the price of corn up in the last 2 years.

This has become a huge topic over the past 2 weeks,,,,I have been noticing more and more people with problems... a buddy of mine purchased a gas blower and 2 hrs after he bought it the engine was locked up.....dealer told him they were having issue with the ethanol and 2 cycle engines..... they replaced his blowere with a new one and since he has had no issue( using non ethanol fuel now).
Looks like Exxon just lost all my gas business. I am not running that crap through any of my engines if I can help it!

This also why the cost of potassium hydroxide has trippled in the last year (and why I seldom use it anymore). PH is used in making ethanol.

Running over 10% ethanol will void a Briggs warranty.

My wife had a Taurus that was listed as being able to run E85. I tried it when gas went to almost $4. It popped errors codes every time. Got tired of resetting them and switched back to 10%. They don't have this ethanol fuel figured out by a long ways.

Maybe instead of growing all that corn to make ethanol, maybe instead use it to make biodiesel so the trucks and cars burning it will burn cleaner than using regular diesel so it is better for the environment and lessen the need a little bit for crude oil.

Ethanol sucks, I try at all costs to avoid it. Sea Foam is a great product and it too has gone way up in price.
