about 4 years ago. i started accepting credit cards. i don't get many people that pay with them. some years it works out good. of course i get killed in fees. the reason i started taking them was to get into more gov. work. i've looked at alot of web sites and some of you guys don't take them. wondering if i should let it go. the gov. work is not too steady. do you think you have lost many jobs from not taking them?

Credit cards are very important; most customers have changed over to direct deposit or credit cards.
I think getting rid of it now would be a bad idea.

Maybe a list of people who use these would help you.
I will start a post of the companies that accept credit cards and you can start trying to get more of there business.

We actually look for companies that use credit cards.

People ask me occasionally if I take Credit Cards, I say we only take Cash or Checks. Their always fine with that.

They are really not, they prefer the credit cards. The reasons are many, the main one is the accounting is electronic and kept track of by computer. You invoice cost them more money in processing.

If you shop, you should be able to find a company like the one I use - Heartland - and pay a fixed-fee of about $30/mo plus a % of each sale. No rent, no equipment. All charges are called in on my cell and funds are deposited, usually, within 48 hours.

On the commercial side, I see CC as being my favorite method to take. Money within a couple days, not 30.

We accept them but I don't have it on any of my sites. I set up a pay online feature for one of my companies but haven't finished setting it up. I guess I should get around to it..lol

We run charges all the time and A LOT of people use them. Hang on to it for now and start promoting the fact that you accept them. It makes you look more legitiment and some people will choose you over a company that doesn't take them.

How can you not take them in this day and age? I won't perform a residential job without a credit card on file! I have no problem getting paid (cancelation fee) when a customer shedules a job and then are not home when we arrive and will not answer their phone. When I give them an estimate over the phone and they say go ahead and perform the cleaning I know have payment on hand. I give them the option of paying with check or cash but when the customer is not home and says I'll send you a check you better have a back up plan. I have a lot of commercial accounts that pay with cards also!! Sometimes that is the first question customers ask when they call to book a cleaning!!!

Some places flag internet commerce and dont allow it. Some don't, you might check before they flag.

We considered accepting credit cards, but corporations usually did not give a high enough limit for their employees to charge on. Even some of the big boys only had $5,000 limits per day. The fees was also another concern. We have large amounts on a invoice to one company. We would had to eat it or add to our invoicing in some way. Most companies said.... we'll pay by check. No fees and they get to keep their money for 45 days.

Thus, we do use Credit Cards.

I'll take any form of payment they're going to offer :) Been taking all majors credit cards for years and we process quite a few. The best thing about it for residential is when we close a job we take a deposit on the card... then its just a phone call when you complete it to get paid. MOST people are pretty good about paying quickly but there's those few that think your there to finance it for them. We use Intuit for credit cards and thier rates are pretty competitive (1.7% or so?)

There are some easy ways to accept cards. One was through your bank you already have your account with, as Ron mentioned at the AL RT. You get an old school "knuckle buster" with some charge slips. You can call the card company for an authorization code to make sure the card is good before you perform the work. You take the slips to your bank and they process them as a normal CC transaction. Usually this means no monthly charges from a normal CC processing company. You will get charged a per transaction fee and a % of the total (typical is 2.5% to 4%, depending on the bank).

We are going to have a guest at the GA roundtable who can give information on starting up CC processing with your company. They give some of the best rates we know of. Make sure you ask them any questions you have! We will let you know who the guest is so you know who to direct your questions to!

I went to my bank to tell them I wanted to do this and the branch manager told me they could not do it. Im guessing because they offer a merchant service through them.
