Curtain system for hoods

Creative use of plastic spoons.

kmjt1021,

Yup, we're all guilty of jamming things in there to make the plastic stick.

Nice spoons. What brand of spoon have you found to be most effective?

Hi, i dont do hoods but i like the creativity you guy's have.
If someone sold flat metal strips that were backed by high heat rated adhesavie with a peel off backing. Would you be able to perm. mount them on the stainless steel so you could use a magnetic strip to hold the plastic sheeting?
My other question is if you use the rare earth magnets.
One on the outside and one on the inside of a stainless steel hood would it hold?
I have seen them stick through 1 inc of phone book.
If im just being anoying ill go.

too complicated

Ron P,

The things you mentioned would be too complicated.

I personally like plastic spoons better--plus they look really professional.

Maybe I should have a "materials fee" to cover the cost of the spoons.

:D

What kind of spoons????

kmj1021,

I personally like the free kind.

Since i am not usually out at night was pretty surprised when I walked in that kitchen and I saw the spoons.

That was a first for me.
The serviceman (in the picture) thought I was crazy for taking pictures of the spoons but i told him that there are people out there that will appreciate his creativity.

He knows that all restaurants conduct a spoon count in the morning, therefore replaces them in the dining room. Just one more reason I avoid any restaurant for at least one week after a hood cleaning.

You may want to tell your guys that if a plastic spoon will fit in that spot, a clamp will do so as well. I find that a clamp every couple of feet works well. I try to discourage my guys from using things from the restuarant if at all possible. my two cents.

After a second look I see that a clamp would not work in the spot, perhaps a simple piece of cardboard.

Yup I too discourage our guys from touching anything in the kitchen.......the spoons was a new one for me.

You can learn something new every day.

Spoons I like it-I hate cutting up cardboard from boxes-then again, this must be some wacky Matt joke. Then again you can pick up 2 LBS of spoons after the PWNA meal in LV.

Sorry I may have posted in the wrong spot. Please see my post under tape in this section. Maybe this is the answer to your question?

Cheers.

Ok, I have my curtain system built, I am going to use it tonight. I will take pics and let you all know how it goes.

Back to R&D. If it was good news it would have been with the morning Starbucks.

:p :p :p :p :p

ok everyone. IT WORKED!!! I will post pictures later today. I was surprised at how well it stood up. This whole thing cost me about $40 bucks.

How long did it take to set up? How flexible is it? Will it work on a variety of hood lengths and types?

yes, yes, yes, and yes. It took about 4 minutes to setup I have 1 1/4' PVC pipe for the stand, with a "T" connector on top, I have 1" pipe that goes into that "T". I have mulitiple lenths but none going over 10'. I used it with the 10' for the front and 3' for the end pieces, and it worked like a charm. I am also using thin plastic which saves some money. Tear down took about 4 minutes. So it is the fastest and easiest thing I have done yet. I was impressed.

Rob.

Sounds great! Sounds like you've made a curtain to prevent the water from splashing into the kitchen. Is the water from the duct and plenum areas still just falling on the floor, where you vacuum it up?

well actually, we use plastic and 3' PVC pipes to make a pool for the dirty water to go into and collect. This prevents water from going all over the place. use a sump pump or shop vac to suck it up, just depending on how much room we have to work with.
