Caustic on red brick???

Anyone used caustic on red brick? I have a customer that called late today and wants a few car oil areas cleaned off the red brick driveway.

All I have on hand is caustic for early tomorrow morning.

Should be fine if you rinse well. The pores of the brick will catch any remaining caustic and when it dries it will make that white powder coating. It's easier to rinse really well than remove it after drying. I had a chemical guy tell me to rinse with diluted vinegar. It helps get rid of the "slick" feeling really quick, suggesting the caustic is rinsed away. It's always good to test on an out of the way place though, you never know what kind of a glaze is, or once was, on the brick. If there is a glaze, it may leave a little discoloring.
