BURNERS - 12 Volt DC Verses 120 Volt AC

I'm a newbie and I'm shopping for a 'Hot Water High Pressure Washer'. I'm not sure weather to buy a 12 volt or a 120 volt model.

My question is what are the advantages and disadvantages of a 12 volt DC burner verses a 120 volt AC burner?
Does it come down to I like brown better than white or are there real advantages of one over the other.

Thanks for your help!

hit the search button at the top right of this page and type "burner" and you will see 80+ posts relating to burners and the comparison of 12 & 120 volts. There is a lot of great responses and you will have a much better understanding of the differences after reading them.

PS Where is Morgan Hill?

Hi Grant,

I'm still learning my way around the BBS. I'll check the search.

Thanks,

Morgan Hill is directly East of the Monterey Bay and South of San Jose and San Francisco.

John,

Thanks for the link to your article. I followed the link to your website. I have a problem reading the text in that article. The article's text is small and fuzzy. I'm using IE 6.0 and I changed my text size to Large. At that setting your links on the left side of the page are about 1/4" but the text in the article is still small, fuzzy and hurts my eyes. Is there any chance you could email it to me?

Thanks for your help!

By the way Rick you are close enough to me to come over to the shop and get the issue from me. And let me service your machine if needed. I can even sell a new one to you.[

John,

Your article is very interesting and informative. You stated the pros and cons of each system very well. I have a few more questions.

Which system cost less to maintain over a period of years of normal use and maintenance?

Which system ends up in the shop for repairs more often?

What type of sytem do you use, 12 volt DC or 120 volt AC?

Thanks for you help!

I don't use any of them I sell and fix them. I work for a Distributor of many brands. I fix pressure washers all day long for a living.

Most repairs are due to poor maint. BUT THE machines with the generators are by far the best no matter what brand you pick. I see more 12 volt machines come in on a regular basis than the 120 volt. And Direct drive is the worst. I am in Stockton California, and I only sell in my area but you can always call me for free advice. @ (209) 943-0547 Ask for John
