Angie's List: The beginning of the end?

I have stated more than a few times that Angie's List may not be around in the future. While they are a great marketing avenue for many service companies, we must watch who we do business with just as our customers watch out for bad deals from our industry. Angie's List has never turned a profit so that has me concerned that they may not be viable in the long run marketing strategy for service companies. Now there is a new twist to the story. Angie herself along with 4 other execs are being sued for securities fraud by some other shareholders of Angie's List. This does not mean they won't be around much longer, but it is one more negative mark on their growth. Check out the article:

Yeah but no contractor can pay to be on angies list. So I wish they would stop calling, emailing and mailing me , trying to get me to pay to be on the first page of there search's. Oh yeah and the $335 they want to be in their magazine. I hope they go out of business and leave me alone. And to top it off, right after I get off the phone with the sales rep, who was assuring me that hundreds of people a month are searching for my services, I get an email from angies list touting the big deal where another company is advertising $49 driveway cleaning and $50 gutter cleaning. The same exact thing the guy was trying to get me to pay for. After that, I put all their numbers on my call blocker. Maybe they should look to see if the contractor they are trying to suck the money out of has an angies list consumer account before going through their list of promises.

Bill, I was not aware of the lawsuit. Thanks for posting it.

That the AL spokesperson had no comment on the suit is telling. Normally you'd expect a "this is totally without merit" or something similar.

I've never heard from them. Ralph, if they should happen to call I think I'll send them your way. LOL

Yes thanks for posting I hadn't heard this either. They seem pretty expensive to advertise with.
