So i took on a job today and here is my dilema. The house is wood clapboard and he wants it cleaned except around half of the house there is a newly stained beautiful picturesque deck ( of course ) and i dont want my solution to blotch it up and remove the stain. so here is what i have come up with. Any input would help
1. use a very weak solution on that side of the house and constantly dredge the deck with a secondary water supply
2. cover it with a new tarp and pre wet the deck prior to it. im afraid the solution will get between it somehow and spot the deck up.
3. use just a soap only solution and go old school and get a ladder out, dial back the pressure and get close to the clapboard to clean it.

any other ideas? im leaning towards number 3 because its the most guaranteed way of not ruining the decks 2 week old finish. Thanks in advance for any input.

Weaker solution with longer dwell time and keep it wet and continually rinse and you should be fine. 2 weeks should be long enough for stain to cure. In regards to the tarp, it will run underneath the tarp as you said but if you are rinsing it will be even more diluted when it finally comes down on the deck. What I do though is I wet the deck and put the tarp down as I apply the house wash. This way while the solution is still strong it will get on the tarp and not directly on the deck. After I have applied the solution and it is dwelling I remove the tarp and begin rinsing the house all the while continually rinsing and keeping the deck wet. Hope that all makes sense.

Let us know how it turns out and add any tips that you come up with.

We wait 30 days for a recently stained deck to cure out before washing anything around it, then still use a weaker house mix while continually rinsing the deck. Can never be too careful..
