Advice on cleaning clay off brick.

OK, I realize the subject may raise an eyebrow. My intent was not to be cleaning brick homes but you take the jobs people need done. I have a home that the client wants the gutters cleaned. It is also vinyl at the top. So I will be using some gutter grenade and my house wash along with some elbow grease. Below that area the house is brick. The other part of the house the client wants cleaned is from the ground to about 3' up. The ground is dirt and exposed clay and has really gotten onto the bricks.

What is the best way to go about cleaning this lower section of the house that sits on the exposed clay and is fairly well covered with it?

After I clean he is having some landscaping done.

Thanks for the help.

Some more specifics would help like is it the red clay? If so, an acid based cleaner will be needed.

Nc Muratic acid will do the trick Patrico I have dealt with that a time or two.Nine times out of ten you will clean the same red clay of next year.

I will check out Sure Kleen and I have wondered about Muriatic acid. From what I read I can dilute as much as 10:1. I had doubt that this would actually help rebove the splatter from the bricks but I can try a small area and get some practice before I start.

Now since I am using house wash up high and then trying the muriatic acid down low do I need to worry about the walls becoming noticably uneven?

To apply the muriatic acid can I apply to wet brick with a garden type sprayer, let sit and wrinse away?

I would love to hear your applicationa nd working method. It will give me a good starting point.

I keep seeing mention of NMD80. It talks about being good for new masonary but sounds like many are using it for old including the clay issue I have. Has anyone tried this stuff? I am thinking of ordering some. For the next brick job.

Thanks for all the help. It is very much appreciated.

NMD-80 will do the trick. We use it daily on brick and foundations.

Wet the brick and spray with the acid muratic or md-80 or surklean. Why would you doubt that muratic would work??Guess what the some of the products are in md-80 you guessed it hydrocloric acid. Those other products just have some other buffer acids in them,.I said muratic because its cheaper for what you want to do.Just wet the wall after you have done the house wash please dont let the sh mix with this or any acid product.Do a section at a time you dont wanna let it dry on the wall if you can help it.How many drums you need i can bring them up there if you buy two or more drums from me.

Thanks Hal, I am just not familiar with getting the clay splatter off. Good advice on not letting the acid and SH mix. I was thinking of doing the clay cleaning last and after a wrinse of the area. Think that will be safe? A good wrinse of the wall and ground.

I cleaned the brick yesterday. I did an experiment and used Muriatic Acid at 10:1 and I used some One Restore by EaCO Chem. The One Restore won. My application method was to wet the brick. Spray with One restore, wait about three minutes and spray again, wait a few minutes and rinse off, rinse off, rinse off. I must say I would rather rinse off than scrub any day. To do a few feet up all around the house I used about 2 gal of the product that I paid $130 for in a 5 gal bucket. I would use the One restore again.
