Accountants and bookeepers

I do the books, and the quarterly payroll reports and taxes, so I don't pay a bookkeeper (very easy with quickbooks). But I have an accountant review everything and do the fed tax return once a year. She charges between $500 and $750

I've tried the quickbooks thing and its not as simple as they claim, or maybe it is and I just don't have the patience to figure it out. And if you need any help or training with it they charge you out the wazzoo. About how many hours per month does it take you to keep up with quickbooks?

Well, weekly payroll takes about 30 minutes to an hour, monthly depositing takes no time at all (except I HATE writing big checks), and the quarterly forms and reports (FUTA, SUTA, etc) takes about 2 hours because I don't actually trust computers and I re-do them all by hand to make sure the computer added things up correctly.

That's funny, I use computers to make sure I added things up correctly

We do all payroll and file quarterly deposits for 941 taxes, unemployment and state taxes. We also do FUTA taxes in house. Currently using QuickBooks Premier ’02.

Never really kept track how long I spend on this stuff. Payroll only takes a few minutes each week to enter. 940 and 941 taxes Q/B’s in most cases self-fills these reports also does W2’s and W3’s at the end of the year. Probably spend a couple hours per quarter for all payroll activities. We of course also use QuickBooks to handle all of our invoicing, vendor payments, P & L and other reports

I use a CPA to file annual federal and state tax reports. He also keeps my depreciation schedules for all of our capital equipment. He only charges me $100 per year.

QuickBooks have field people who will set your program up and help you as needed. I use this service and I spent $175. last year for the person to have hands on fix and explain. He works with just one person by the way. If you have a problem call a local guy and fix your issues. I can help you find a person, just give me a call. FREE

It is part of doing business, and there are somethings that you need to do yourself.
That being said, our accountant is great!!! She will take a call from us anytime about anything, she charges us about $500 a year for our taxes, both personal and Business, and is really sharp.
We do the bulk of our work on quickbooks, and it took her about 7 or 8 hours to get us set up and trained on how to use it. Some of that was idle chit chat, but she is a very good family friend.
Learn quickbooks, spend the money, and find a good accountant. If they do not save you more money than you are spending on taxes, they are not worth the money.
