I admit, I have been a member of PWI for only about a year or so. I was invited to join. I have enjoyed these bbs and I am bewildered by one individual in particular whom seems to have a need to publish a seemingly extreme disdain for me both personally and professionally. Should I prove and gather evidence of damage, that individual would become legally liable for pursued financial restitution. Luckily, I am not a litigious individual.
During this period of time, I have noticed many instances of disapointment in character of individuals posting on this bbs and others. (I am talking about a handful of offenders.) Some seem to be addicted to the negativity of poking fun at an individual or creating topics for childish gossip unrelated to pressure washing, roof cleaning or the related industries.
Comments on many threads are quite simply, LIBEL.
For the offenders, please explain when you feel that the veil and ambiguity of the computer screen and keyboard should fade the line of our constitutional right of free speech versus defamatory libel for you. When? Why do you feel you have the right? This behavior is not ethical nor professional or even Christian. The rude comments, defamatory, false statements and criticism should cease. It does not add intellectual value to the bbs.
Do you know that a defamatory statement does not have to prove to be true to be libel? Verbalization of malicious defamation meets the definition of slander. When defamation fueled by malicious intent is published, it becomes libel. Realize that opinions are not held innocuous to the definition of libel.
Although this handful of cowardly offenders hide behind their computer screens in this virtual world, please be mindful of those written comments. Libel is injurious. The bbs operators, moderators and registered owner(s) are legally accountable for the content.
As you read through past threads that exhibit a taste of malice, reflect on how the recipient may feel. Remember that the person responsible for the post(s), the moderators, operators and owner(s) may be held legally liable for financial restitution.
