A different kind of fleet: railroad cars

Even freight cars have to be cleaned now and then, just so the numbers and other data can be read, but passenger cars have to be kept "nice." I'm looking into the best way(s) to efficiently clean off dust, dirt, and diesel soot without damaging paint and adhesive markings, leaving aluminum any color or shade it didn't start out in, or crazing, hazing, scratching or otherwise messing up windows. (They're not glass, because of federal regulations, but I don't know yet whether they're acrylic or polycarbonate, or maybe some of each.)

I had some concerns about whether soda blasting would be bad for the glazing, and someone confirmed for me this morning that it would. Glad I found that out without having to do any "test swatches." ;)
On stainless steel, I think soda would be handy for removing soot, even that diesel exhaust smudge.

Suggestions, tips and tricks will be much appreciated.
