My guys got water down the elevator shafts today, supose to be using berms as trained and shorted out the electronics that run the dam thing. Any of you ever had this problem? Looks like this might cost me more money!!!

Now the lesson learned is that you better have systems in place with a manual with step by step instruction.

I have been accused of frying elevators before. It happened every time I washed a particular job in the rain. I have seen tye electronics get fried in the elevattor call buttons before. A little tape, a little plastic and it is good.

Procedures are in place< training was done two weeks before this happend. Employee got lazy, Forgot the PIGS and barriers at shop and did not want to go back and get them. You will soon see him working at McDonalds!! Elevator computers arent cheap!! looks like we will be buying one. The garage will not let us shut down the elevator for work. Yah!Lou, procedures followed usually eliminates mistakes.
Finally landed 3 garages close to home. Looks like I have to do some really good talking when I get home to save the contracts on these!!!!!Sorry this happened Jim.
Guys not all elevators electronics are at the top. The more recent ones on the east coast seem to be built with the electronics on the bottom. Dont guess at this. Or assume. When I started with garages we had 5 and all were at the top. I never bothered to shut anything down as I just ran the elevators up and propped the doors open. This same PM opened a new garage and we had alarms going off warning us of water in the shaft area. Berms work best.
Ron,Jim I'm your friend buddy, I used to blame my employees too. When and if you realize hopefully before the next major mistake you need a fail safe procedure in place. Blame no one but yourself, I'll bet you save the account if brutally honest with the customer and take it on the chin.
I'm sorry I'm looking at this from a different stance, I blame no one but myself for anything any of my subs or employees do wrong or right.
Jim as a friend I hope you don't think I'm being hard on you. We have all been here, but I want you to know you need to find out why he forgot. And if he truly had systems in place for back up and those where ignored as well then I would likely fire him.
If I did not I might look at the protocol and change it.
