My fax machine was telling me my toner cartridge was low about 2 years ago so I scoured the internet looking for a good price and came upon a decent little trick to extend the life of the cartridge. Keep in mind this was about 2 years ago, I fax or receive faxes daily, and I still haven't had to replace it.
If you look at a toner cartridge, there are little clear windows on each side where the fax machine reads the level of toner remaining. All you have to do is black the windows out with a sharpie, and voila! The fax machine thinks that you have a new cartridge. I've probably received about 1,000 faxes since then without having to purchase a new one. It still thinks it is full. I know I should end all the paper clutter and gigantic fax machine sitting on my desk and get myfax or something, but I refuse to until my toner runs out!
Don't ask me why I started this thread, I just looked down at my fax and thought I would share.
Hope this helps someone save a few bucks. Cheers.
