A fire broke out at a McDonald's in Springfield Township on Wednesday morning.
The fire started at 5:30 a.m. on October 3rd , 2010 in the 9200 block of Winton Road.
Firefighters said flames were shooting through a vent in the roof when they arrived. Once crews made it inside the restaurant, they began tearing down ceiling tiles and realized the intensity of the fire. They then exited the restaurant and began fighting the fire from outside, firefighters said.
Firefighters said a third of the restaurant's roof collapsed. Damage was estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The restaurant's manager reported the fire when he arrived to open the restaurant and smelled smoke. He was the only person in the restaurant at the time and was not hurt.
Firefighters said that they were looking at the restaurant's ventilation system as they investigated the cause of the fire.
Winton Road was closed between Compton and Fleming roads as crews worked to put out the fire and clean up hot spots. Firefighters hoped to have the road reopened before 9 a.m.
