Firefighters responded this weekend to a small fire that broke out at a restaurant in the Independence Mall. The Kingston Fire Department received a call at 8:24pm Saturday reporting a fire at the Pomadorino Ristorante. Deputy Chief Rick Fowler says the initial call indicated was there was a fire in the restaurant’s ceiling.
"It was called as a fire in the ceiling at Pomadorino restaurant at the Independent Mall," said Fowler. "We found it to be a chimney fire that originated in their pizza oven that extended up through flue and up through the roof."
Kingston was assisted at the scene by fire crews from Plymouth and Duxbury. Fowler says the fire was quickly extiguished and no one was injured during the incident. He says Pomadorino’s pizza oven sustained the most damage.
"Currently their oven is out of service, await a technition to repair it and replace the chimney component," Fowler explained.
The total damage has been estimated between $2,000 and $4,000.
