No one hurt in kitchen fire in west suburban mall restaurant
A small restaurant kitchen fire summoned emergency crews to a west suburban Oak Brook mall early Tuesday, but no one was hurt and the restaurant sustained no damage.
The fire started about midnight at 232 Oakbrook Center, according to an Oak Brook police dispatcher.
The small fire started in a cooking duct above a brick oven at the Wildfire restaurant inside the Oakbrook Center mall, Oak Brook Fire Dept. Lt. Mike Pavlovic said. A restaurant manager in a nearby office called emergency officials who put out the flames “within seconds,” he said.
A sprinkler system that activated before crews arrived kept the fire from spreading, Pavlovic said. The business had already closed when the fire started, and no other employees and no customers were present at the time.
Firefighters have responded to Wildfire before for the same problem, but the premises sustained no damage and will be able to open for business Wednesday as normal, he said.
The small fire may have started in part because of a build-up of grease from cooking, Pavlovic said. No one was injured in the incident, and the rest of the mall was not affected.
