Bakersfield, California

A kitchen fire at a restaurant in a strip mall Saturday night in the 9400 block of Hageman Road caused about $55,000 in damage.
The Quick One Chinese Restaurant was closed when the fire was reported just before 11 p.m., but business was booming next door at RJ's Bar and Grill, so it had to be evacuated.
Nearly 200 people had to leave RJ's, but no injuries were reported.
The fire was confined to the stove in the kitchen of the Chinese restaurant. Damage to the bar next door was limited to a door that happened when fire crews forced it open to check for possible fire extension.
The Kern County Fire Department issued a news release following the fire that stated it would like to remind business owners that a properly maintained hood and extinguishing system can save thousands of dollars in damage in events such as this.
