Fire reported at McDonald's in Asheville

ASHEVILLE — The Asheville Fire Department responded to a reported commercial kitchen fire at 35 Hendersonville Rd, McDonald’s Restaurant, on Monday night.

Units arrived at about 10 p.m. to find that the fire had started in the grease exhaust system over the fryers and had already been extinguished through activation of the hood system, according to a news release from the Asheville Fire Department.
Crews investigated other areas of the restaurant to be sure there was no extension of the fire, to which they found none. Prompt activation of the hood system allowed McDonald’s to suffer minimal damage with very little clean up and they were able to reopen in a timely manner.

The Asheville Fire Department, along with their fire marshal’s staff, highly encourages business owners to keep regular maintenance of their hood suppression systems and to be sure their employees are trained on their systems.

The Asheville Fire Department performs fire inspections of each business within city limits to help enforce fire codes. With the help of business owners being educated on fire codes, we can all work together to make certain that businesses within the city are fire safe.
