Work Lights

What do you guys use as work lights? I have some 110v halogens mounted on my trailer and it's a constant battle with bulbs and lenses breaking. Is there a trick to mounting or am I just getting cheap lights?

we run 4- 500w work lights, you can get them at HD or Lowes, there pretty cheap and last a long time.

Naturally we carry extra bulbs, but they seem to last awhile.

That's what I use. Maybe it's the cold weather that makes the lenses brittle. I also have a son that works with me that could break an anvil. Actually mine aren't mounted I just have a piece of plastic pipe mounted on the trailer that I drop the stand down into while stationary. Thanks.

We use the halogen on tripods as well. Down here the cold isn't a problem. Like Russ we take them when needed.

i use 2 halogen lights from home depot mounted on the top of my truck ... i took them apart and had them high temp powdercoated... they seem to work awesome.

I think you guys are right, mounting on the trailer wasn't such a good idea. The vibration from the machines must be what's killing them. I liked having them up higher and not worrying about pulling a hose a knocking them over. We switched from a van to a pick up and they will go in the bed now. Thanks

Try not to buy the bulbs from Horrible Freight, I bought a lot when they were on sale and they do not last but a few hours each. I started out with their yellow tripods and they did not last 6 months before welds broke, paint was peeling off and the height adjustment broke.

The next pair I got were from Sears on sale and still have them for a few years now.

I have the tripods also and like using them that way.

I have a generator on the trailer.

Guy that is alot good info I was thinking of mounting lights on my trailer but I think use the stand instead.

I use my lights every night i am out...So thats why i mounted them directly on my trailer. Stopping to set them up at each stop was not an option for me.

Soon as i start my generator up the lights come on, my generator is always running anyway to power my Hot Box's?

we have a couple of inexpensive ones, they are 8550 max wattage and 5750 normal wattage cost around 775.00 ea.

How many lights you running to need 5750K or 8550 power? I've got a 5500 that I run my 2100 sq ft all electric house with when the powers is out. (ventless LP fire place x 2 heat when pwr out but I run the central fan) I do only run the fridge during the day and the hot water at night for showers in the morning or one at a time but the rest of the house was hot. Thats not short time either,, at that house the power goes out every year for at least a week at a time before coming back on.(ice storms) I would have thought one of the 3 or 400.00,, 3k ones would be plenty for some light sets. Russ you just a Big Dog and not like to hear the motor drop rpms...lol...
