Wood grain on decks

Hi everyone, im a first time poster and just started sub-contracting pressure washing for my neighbor who has a residential restortation business(I do it part time on weekends). I did my first deck today along with brick siding along the bottom of the deck. The wood was in pretty bad shape and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in many years (mold, algae and all). This is my first machine, 3.0 gpm 2800 psi cold water. I used M1 deck cleaner on it, and at the end of the job, the home owner was really happy with it, so was my contractor, however, I wasn't. I found that the presssure needed to clean it properly was taking some of the grain out of the wood and splintering it a bit. I told my contractor that we needed to come back on it after he finishes with his add ons he's doing, with a light sanding job then seal it. Any ideas on what happened to the wood, it was clean at the end but looked rough like it needed sanding to smooth it out.

Thanks, Tony

Hey Tony,

You used too much pressure on the deck instead of using the proper chemicals. Try hooking up with another company in your area or taking the wood certification course some people have. If you like give me a call or come on up to Maryland, I would be happy to show you how we do deck cleaning. If you like come up on the 16'th of April there's going to be quite a few of us getting together then.

Thanks Henry,

I'll bring the 16th up to the General (thats the wife) and see if she doesn't have a problem with me going!

I would be interested and am located in Maryland, what are the details (location, requirements, etc.)

Thanks,

If your a PWNA member your welcome to attend the creation of the Maryland Chapter and meet a bunch of us on the 16th. If your not a member your still welcome to come up after the meeting. This first meeting is for members only so we can set up all the details and make plans on how were going to do things. After it's created it will be open to everyone to attend.
Or, if you want you can go out and work with one of my crews during the week and see how we do things. Just let me know what it is you want to learn so I can stick you out with a crew doing that type of work.
