I'm new and want to do a good job. I've got a few questions.

What are the thoughts on Oxi-clean vs. Chlorine?

Any recommendations on where to buy what?

I'm trying to catch my legs and appreciated the board and guidance everyone gives. I look forward to this new venture.

You say Oxi-clean and chlorine....... on what application. roofs, siding????? Personaly I use nothing but chlorine on roofs, and mix some with a soap for house washes.
 
Sorry, roof application was what I was wondering about. I appreciate your help. I was thinking the chlorine until I had someone tell me they use Oxy clean so I thought I'd double check.

12% will be cheaper and it works great, no need for anything else
 
What you are referring to is actually not chlorine. Its a product that uses chlorine in its manufacture called sodium hypochlorite. Sodium hypochlorite's strength is expressed as a percentage. 12% is a standard for liquid pool shock (what most of use). I have seen it as high as 20% but that is so unstable that it would have to be used within 24 hours of it being made. Within two days it will fall to 12%-15%.

OxyClean™ is actually sodium percarbonate and soda ash (sodium carbonate). You can make you own much cheaper than paying for the OxyClean™ label. Very high concentration sodium percarbonate will work on a roof that is not real bad but it takes much longer and will be more expensive to use. On the plus side its a little safer for the surrounding vegetation. It will also emulsify carbon based deposits better than bleach (sodium hypochlorite). You can probably count on one hand how many companies use percarbonate. Its just too slow with marginal performance for a professional.

I buy my 12 percent at any Ace Hardware.... I cut a deal with the local one for 11.50 a five
 
I buy mine from here. .98 a gallon.
