What is this thing?

What is this? I heard a pop and then water started coming out of the hose that goes down. Is it some type of overheat switch? Can it be reset? I had just turned it on about 3 minutes when this happened.

Ok, I found it. It's a rupture disk. What caused this to go out?

It wasn't supposed to get below freezing last night. The first thing I did before I turned it on was check the feed hose to see if it was iced up and it was a little frosty, but still very flexible.

Does the heating coil get colder than the feed hose? Does this mean water was frozen in the heating coil?

Brass conducts energy better than steel does. Heat is energey. Cold is heat, well sort of. That means that the brass will cool and heat quicker than your steel coil. That being said, there is still a very strong possibility that you got ice in your coil last night, but that does not mean that you have a problem. There is also a possibility that you just had an ice blockage in the pressure washer tip, and that coupled with something else could have caused the rupture disk to burst.

What Scott said is golden knowlege.
On any day where it is close to freezing you should winterize or run a heater to keep it above freezing in your trailer, box truck ect....>If you have a question as to if it is frozen get the machine warm as you can before you rin it. Also if it is freezing and you are shutting it down give the ice an "out" Open the hoses and it can expand out an opening rather than against machine components.
The burst disk did what it is supposed to do. One trick to warm it up is to start it with no gun on it so it will force any small ice crystals out of the system before it has a chance to clog it.

I have the same problem however this machine leaks from the pop-off valve whe the machine is running. I will replace it soon but the question is can i replace it with this burst disc or not

Thanks, I've never had to do that before. I guess it got down to 29 last night. I have never seen lower than 31 in 11 years of living here.

Thank goodness Al Gore took care of that global warming for us or we'd all be sunbathing right now.

No, the burst disc is a secondary safety. Besides, after talking to Tony yesterday, you can get 2 pop offs for the price of 1 burst disc.
