Question for everyone that visits PWI...

What has PWI done for you?

With the wealth of information shared here, and the numerous conversations that have taken place on the phone, in chat rooms, on live!Yahoo, at Round Tables, many of us must have learned or taken things and implemented them in how we run our business.... so,

What has PWI done for you?

I'll get us started...

there is probably too much to mention, so I'll start with a couple of things:

Initially, PWI helped me identify my target markets and gave me valuable information as to how I could market to them. Along with my own experience and ideas I have found the experience of others on here invaluable in my understanding and implementation of my marketing and business strategy.

More recently I have learned and seen the value and importance of networking within and outwith the industry - I have probably made more productive steps forward in the last 2 months from information received by reading posts here and talking with other contractors at Florida RT, on LiveYahoo and on the telephone.

There are many other areas that I have benefited from the information on here... let's hear how it has helped the rest of you.

Please share how PWI has helped your understanding/implementation...

possible areas:

marketing
operation
equipment
knowledge
customers
trends
opportunities
flatwork
window cleaning
KEC
softwashing
roof cleaning
getting started
taking business to next level

A lot of you guys/gals have been members for a long time... would be nice to hear from those who are more established as well as the newer guys - you're always learning, share what you have learned!!
:D

Steven this what PWI has done for me:
motivated ..stimulated;;; educated.. excited me about pressure washing

Matt I'd be honored if someone called me a brown noser when it comes to PWI

and Russ look at it this way... you made a new buddy this weekend Me (seriously)

Great Question Steven look forward to all the other replies

hey David

this what PWI has done for me:
motivated ..stimulated;;; educated.. excited me about pressure washing

I think many on here will agree with your succinct description... I agree with the 'excited' part... I love hearing success stories, whether it's posts about going the extra mile and leading to more work, posts about condo cleaning and the infectious enthusiasm and obvious passion portrayed, posts from those who have developed easier, more efficient and productive practices.

want to share any one thing/story/tip/idea that has motivated/stimulated/educated/excited you?

I think it will help give new and old an idea of how every contribution can help another make some positive changes or additions to their business.

:D

Well, David your last post about says it all :)

Seriously, Just joking Steve...lol...Good topic actually.

I have personally been just a GUEST forever.

I read, learned, laughed and nearly cried over a few mishaps and misfortunes of others since I found this forume a few years ago.
Yes, I too have been enthused, amazed, taken aback and totally pumped over some of the knowledge I have come across here on PWI. LOTS and I MEAN LOTS as in TONS of Terrific information is available here on PWI. But for myself its the people, not just the board that truly make PWI great!

In summary, now looking back over the several years I have GHOSTING on other forums thing the thing I used to say to myself is that reading was ok but sitting here and posting my thoughts and feedback was a "waste of my time", mainly due to bickering and smalltalk due to a lack of moderation on some other forums, and even at times on this forum.

However, I must say that I have found PWI to be for the most part a very refreshing "breath of fresh air" in the stuffy hard to breathe world of breathing chems and exhaust fumes for far to long doing commercial flat work.
It has been nice to find others changing careers, searching for advice, and generally getting a good dose of new material to fill my cranium with.

Sometimes, its hard to find "Niche" market information thats ACTUALLY usable in immediate real life situations but here on PWI, I can't tell you all (truthfully) how many times I have had a problem or a situation I was stumped on and couldn't find an answer to but have come to this board and read and searched and finally resolved the issue at hand from reading someones post or solution to a similar situation or circumstance.

This board is well run for the most part and always seems to offer timely advice from those that have "been there, done that".

Well there you go.That's just some of what PWI and MOST IMPORTANTLY, PWI's MEMBERS have done for me and my business.

Thats all I've got...oops did I BROWN NOSE a little bit.

BTW, If anyone is wondering if I get anything for posting this or saying ANY of THIS stuff.

To Bad, but nobody is paying my a red cent to say any of this.
LOL

PWI and other BB's have help my business grow. I like PWI now there is less fighting on it now, it just seems like the most professional BB out there. PWI also has more seasoned professionals, guys that know the in's and out's of more than just washing something

I have been fairly successful in the past few years and anyone that knows me here on these BB's and in my personal life knows I LOVE THE PWing business. I wouldn't be where I am now and I got a long way to go, but these BB's have help MAKE my business. I'm a dumb ass on a lot of things business, mechanical but I have drive to be a successful self employed business owner and PWI has people that can help me live out my dream. Its not just PWI, I have to say most of the other BB's have helped me along on this journey. I can call some one here, say Ron or any of the seasoned professional and I can ask a question, even a stupid question, I will get a answer. How cool is that?

I wish I started in the business earlier in life, but I only dreamed of where I am now and it isn't a dream. I no longer just dream of what can be I actually know it can be. I see Matt Bryan say 1 million, that is my goal, I will be close to or at a 1/2 mill this year, but you know I know I can someday do over that 1 million. You can see that Matt is proud that he made that mark, hell who wouldn't. The KNOWLEDGE and camaraderie on PWI does nothing but help. I went from taking 4-6 hours scrubbing a house because I was afraid of bleach to knocking out 10, 20, 30, 40, large condo buildings in a week. I LOVE THIS BIZ.

PWI & other BB's sure can take away some of the hard knocks of being in business

I LOVE PWing, know what I like most. I am sitting right here typing away while my guys are out making me money and after I'm done typing in this post I will be INVOICING YAY, I love invoicing

Life is GOOD !!

Jeff

This board has taken myself and the company to a whole new level of professionalism. I have learned so much from the boards and the many many hours on the phone with many of the board members. everyone has been very eager to let me pick the brain and ask anything even if it was a stupid question... I have been here for 9 months now, and I went from the trunk of a malibu to the "micro-rig" from 1 job a week to about 6-18 a week. I honestly can say "thank you" to all who have been here for me.. My company today is running like I started it 3-5 years ago from all that I have learned in here

Alot of you newbies are very fortunate to have this forum. You are able to achieve in a few years what would have normally taken 5 years or more to accomplish. Thanks to the guy's here that have shared their shortcuts and secrets, and tools of the trade to get it done right with speed and quality.

I thought it would be an appropriate time to post here. This forum has reduced the learning curve from a mountain to a hill. No I don't know it all but I can't imagine how long it would take to get the answers I have without it. Without working for a very knowledgeable PW contractor I don't know how you would accomplish it. And most smart contractors want to keep you dumb. So you won't want more money and you won't become a competitor.

Roof cleaning is almost nonexistent as an industry in IN. I've asked and received help from several members here. They never asked anything in return. The same with flat work. I've owned a couple of others business and learned everything from my degree from MIT. (Mistakes I've Tried) I've thrown thousands of dollars a month in advertising at a business that didn't work. Just part of it. I've seen so much shared here that I've thought sometimes "Are these guys nuts for posting this?" Some of which would be what some industries would protect and consider "Trade Secrets".

Even my wife has become accustomed to me asking for the manager when we eat out at a restaurant. Some of you may take this industry for granted. I've been in business for myself my entire life. I haven't had a W-2 since I was 19 and I have kids older than Scrappy, I mean DJ. I have friends in all types of businesses. They are all very slow right now with skeleton crews or in trouble except the service type business. I'm sure we could all make more money during better economic times but a growth industry opportunity right now is incredible. It should only get better. We are only limited by our effort and knowledge.

I used to go into a retail or fast food restaurant and see gum and dirt. Now I see opportunity.

I'll get us started...
