I know that most of us can do the labor part of running a p/w business.

What I want to know is what are some of the things that have helped you make your business' successful?

Books?

The first thing you should have even before you start that business is a business plan, having said that I assume you are already in business so make that plan anyway.

Then follow it and inprove on it as you grow.

Go to your local College and take night classes on business, talk with SCORE, join your local Chamber of Comerece.

There are many other things you can do like know your competitors and what they offer the customers and do better.

By better I do not mean price cutting either.

The key is presentation. You must present yourself as a knowledgable Professional in all aspects of your business.

Marketing/Advertising will set you apart from the others - If you back up your mouth with QUALITY. If people see and hear something enough - they tend to believe it.

Read, Read, Read - magazines articles, books, internet. In advertisment, it not how much you say its what you say and who you say it too.

Being a Pressure Washer Technition is only half - To set yourself apart from the others - You have to be a salesperson.

What the previous posters have said is all true and helpful. But, to be perfectly honest for me it has been the trial and error of being in the business for 12 years now. I will say that my previous job with a service company years ago helped me also with dealing with people on a professional level.

Very good question. When starting out in a new business I tell people to go part-time to make sure they like what they are doing. Do this for 2 years. As for competing against some one else in the same kind of business, you are your biggest competitor. I own two businesses and have friends in both. So to answer you question Live your dream and only associate with positive and supportative people. I like it when someone says that can't work.
