Well Here it Goes; I better get to work.

I've decided to target one zip code, income $100,000+, lived in their house 5+ years, house is worth 350k - 999k.

The lead count is 4497.

I've got the labels printed and I'm going to start putting them on. I will probably have a mailing house send them and maybe I can get a better rate on postage.

List from InfoUSA.com for 4497 Leads: $334.79
Postcard Design from Keith @ kbkgraphx.com $150.00
Postcard Prints of 5000: $200.00
Shipping for 4497 postcards will cost $1214.19 (unless I can get a mailing house to do it cheaper).

I will update on the results. What is the average return anyways 1 or 2% unless you target them several times?

Good luck, and be sure to keep us posted. 4% called on my first campaign, 2% hired us.

Good Job,
The National average for mailers is from .5% to 1% I have a friend in the painting business that sent out 6,000 per week. He pays alot. His company did $6,000,000 a couple years ago. The more you send if demographics are correct will pay off.

MATT - Good luck with those, it is a really nice design! We are putting out about 2500 flyers a week right now with good results. Not as great as last year, but still well worth it. We do door to door delivery. We have never done direct mail but I do want to try it. We are really busy with commercial work though, so I am not really trying to market residential any more than just doing the flyers.

Good luck man, and $150 is really fair for a nice designed postcard, I'm gonna have to call Keith :D

Very good price, from a very good designer.

I'm not sure why people try and design there own rookie looking postcard and spend $1500 on printing and mailing. I would much rather add $150.00 to the price and get a postcard designed that's going to generate a much higher return and have a much more professional look.

Matt, your right. But I like to change it up every month or so. New pics, new offers, so forth and so on.

I had Keith once design me a GREAT postcard. It looked awesome. But it got 0 calls.

I make my own now, put my daughter with some saying on it from her, and some pics on the back with an offer and they are getting some bites.

I wish you much success...

Matt - We design our own post cards and get a great response from them. Why fix something that isnt broke? That way I can change the design and or offer whenver I want. Either way, design your own or get a professional...if it gets you business roll with it!

Direct mail marketing is all about repetition. If you get a good return from your first mailing, you are probably in line for great success with future mailings! They say a lot of people have to see the card 3 or 4 times before they actually call.

That's what the marketting guru's say as well. That's why I decided to stay in one zip code. I want people to see my logo on my truck; I will deliver flyers to surrounding homes when a job is finished as well as leaving a sign in the yard with permission. The neighborhood I targeted is a good keep up with the Jones type of neighborhood. When Susan sees me over at John's house and Susan has seen my name 3 or 4 times she will be sure to call. :D

Matt - That is exactly the way to do it. When you do a home make sure you flyer around that home - we put a sticker on our flyer that says "We were working in your neighborhood today!" We also get the yard sign up. Get your name in front of them as many times as you can. We also ask the homeowner to refer us to their neighbors.

Exactly...

You can't really go overboard with putting your name in front of the customer.

I have a monthly e-letter that I send to my customer base with helpful cleaning tips, contractor recommendations and a special offer. This insures my customers are reminded of our business and services every single month. They don't mind getting it because it offers value. I also promote my friends that are other service providers (carpet cleaners, pool cleaners, house cleaners etc.) All these benefits and all it cost is one hour of my time!

It generates income every month.
