The first steam cleaner was developped in the 1930's. It came about because a still had a leak and they fouund that the steam would cclean the grease off of the floor. I think that the first pressure washer with heat was actually made in 1963. I could be wrong. They did not get popularized until the mid 70's. I am goiing off of memory but I thin that is right.

Steam Cleaner History Lesson

The first widely sold Hot High Pressure Washers were built by Electro-Magic,
they were I believe 2-3 GPM @ 500 psi. (Quite an update from steam cleaning)

(Cleaner Times had an excellent article on the evolution of steam cleaners / pressure
washers, some years ago)

If I remember right they had little duplex hypro pumps. Now you see those pumps used on bug spray rigs, or at least something similar.
