Web Site Costs?

Roundtable Host 2009
I have started to research making a website for my PW company and wanted to know if most guys are doing them themselves or paying a company to do it. I have a company that said it would cost me $500 for a good looking website and they recomended to host it through Go Daddy. I have the domain name, and general layout that I would like to see, but if this is something I could do myself or if $500 seems high, let me know. Any input would be great. Thanks

I did mine myself with a Go Daddy template. It may not be great, but I've had several customers say they liked my website. The cost to get started with Go Daddy is minimal. Give it a shot, the templates are easy to use.

500 for a professionally designed site is actually very cheap, their are guys here that have payed up words of 2000 and beyond for their websites.

most websites can be done your self using templates and alike, but the quality you get from hiring a professional to set it up, and teach you to maintain it, is worth the cost in the long run

I confirm HostGator. These guys have 24/7 chat support, great control panel, reliable and fast hosting. I host with them 12 websites.

Buy the domain name from GoDaddy by using a discount code for $8 bucks then host it with Host Gator.

I didn't know web designers charge by words rather then per project or time. In fact, to upload the content is very easy.
I don't recommend GoDaddy as a host and I don't recommend standard templates.

This industry does not require dynamic, complicated and expensive website. Most important is relevant content, title, description and keywords. Once you set all these elements into decent design, that's all you need :)..

I would say $500 is a fair price for what we need.

The other question is how much business is it costing you by not having a website? Read up on SEO. I think it's more important than a glitzy looking site and most website builders don't know much about it.

Also make sure you get a copy of the completed website in case your guy goes MIA. Get a program like Dreamweaver that will let you edit and make basic changes yourself and some freeware FTP software like IPSWITCH to upload. That way you won't be at someones mercy to get changes made.

Thanks Ant, Your timing is perfect, and I trust your judgement!

I use them myself. I have used others, but much happier with these two. I get coupon codes and all kinds of stuff with them too so the next time I register domains, I usually get them really cheap. The most important thing for me though is the back office stuff.

I can't tell you guys how important cpanel and other things that I don't want to mention are when your website starts bringing you money.
