Vibrating and strange pressure stuff

Ok, I got the 11 hp honda and the t1011 pump that is supposed to be 4.5 gpm @ 2000 psi.

I get right at 5Gpm in a bucket with no tip and motor runs pretty smooth

With a #6 tip that drops down to 4 gpm @ 2000 psi and the whole thing shakes quite a bit and bogs down some.

With a #9 tip I still get about 4 gpm @ 1700 psi and it still shakes and bogs.

With a #6 back in I pulled out the bypass line and noticed there is a lot of bypass.

When I adjust the unloader to the point where there is no bypass the pressure goes up to almost 3000 psi and the whole thing shakes like crazy and bogs down A LOT.

Now that I've done that, it's now hard to start even though I put it back the way it was. It is also smoking black smoke out of the burner now where it wasn't before.

I did take out the spark plug and look at it earlier this week. It looked ok, but could the spark plug be making it shake like that?

Any ideas?

You got yourself a door stop! Congratulations :thank_you2: !

Find a nozzle chart and make sure it is the right size nozzle. Seat of the pants tells me it isn't.

Black smoke is burning too rich so maybe cracked sparkplug, bad wire, possible carb problems, etc...

Can you take the belts off easily and just run the engine to see how it handles without a load?

I would get a new spark plug and try that first, make sure you gap it to what is recommended but I know you knew that.

3000 psi through a #6 is supposed to be 5.2 gal. 4 gal through a # 9 should only be 800 psi! My guess is the unloader is bad restricting the flow and causing pressure at the head without flow. Or something else down the line is restricted.

Whats the no-tip pressure? If that is high it might be a clogged coil or fitting.

Could this be the problem?

Maybe... i see a little dirt on the seal that must be it.

or perhaps that sideways rocker arm. That was what I was going to suggest to check is the valve settings.

What would we do without people like Russ and Paul. Russ called me within minutes of posting this and had me checking valve clearances. That's how I found all of this:

Otherwise, I was thinking the same thing as everyone else and was getting ready to start tearing into the plumbing looking for restrictions.

Thanks Russ!

The pushrod and guide plate are definitely fubar...

2 things tony...
Did you find the rotator?
Use your thumb and push down on the valve to see if it moves up and down freely. I'm hoping the valve stem isn't bent.

I always check the easy stuff first, battery, spark plug, wires, air filter.

Funny thing is, in the original post, there was no mention of anything about an engine problem.:neo: Kind of tells you where Tony's diagnostic skills are. :yes4::slap:

Thanks Russ, did you get the email pics I sent?

I didn't find the rotator.

I used my thumb to push up and down and the spring popped off. The valve stem went back in and was barely sticking out, I got it with my fingernails and pulled it all the way back to where the spring was, (it moved easily), then it slipped out of my fingers and now it's back in the hole where I can see the tip, but can't get my fingernails on it. I tried a magnet, but it wouldn't get it. Bubble gum is next :)
