Vertical Drops

Who does vertical drops? I might have to set up a program/system for drops. I could think of 100 things I would rather do-any help???

Hello David,

We've done a few over the years 2 to 5 stories. We have a trash chute that we clean each year that is 16 stories.

What information are you looking for? I'll help if I can.

If you are talking about lowering a guy down a shaft then you need a boatswain's chair boatswains chair pictures

Picture 1 is one of our guys going down a 22 story vertical shaft in one.

But it takes a set of picture 2 to get in to one and make sure that the guy who gets in it has a good life insurance policy :D

Never had a need for such a contraption around here. Does it come with some kind of safety harness or line?
How about a camera like drain cleaners use? Alot less hazardous to your health.

Am trying to see if I want to get into this-I have a seven floor unit with, one large upblast and 6 hoods feeding off this vertical. Access door on 4th floor. NFPA is not clear as to req., doors at each floor.

I just don't want another problem with drawbacks. I like simple solutions to problems and hanging a employee down a vertical in a chair-seems a bite loaded with problems. Now if the employee was hanging from his neck-now we are getting somewhere. All jokes aside, is this vertical less of a problem than I am making it out to be?

The vertical is about 3X3 and the KES in lunch and breakfeast and no wood. I was figuring the vertical once per year and the laterals and the hoods based on output.

Seems like a visual inspection with camera followed by a squirt with the duct spinner and repeat until duct is clean.
I know steam is a problem with a duct spinner, wait a sufficent time for steam to clear or simply power up fans suck out steam and send camera down. Then like the shampoo bottle says rinse and repeat if neccessary.
Thats about as simple and functional as I can come up with David. :D

ACCESS PANELS- evry 2nd to 3rd story depending upon equipment limitations.
What ya think?

What type of camera would you send down?

Id say if the duct is fairly easliy accessible from floors with out panels, Install them.If they were willing to write the check to have it done correctly I would install doors every 2nd to 3rd floor closer to the heavy build up areas.
Camera type? Hmm - have to look and see what the drain guys are using.
I would think a similiar set up would be rugged enough to send it down into the well.

How many floors are we talking about David?

Here are a few links concerning sewer cameras.
Starting to look to much like Mission Impossible.
David your mission - should you choose to accept it? Will be to spend a unreasonable amount of money on a camera system and break it the first day out.
Well I hope not, but you get the picture. Pun intended.

Some of them may be cost effective. I havent had the time to read them all.

Hello David,

Is the drop a straight shot? Some that we have done have some horizontal runs on some floors. Maybe just at the top or where they needed to go around things in the building.

We’ve used our spinner on stacks like your talking and it does very well. Drop it in from the top and if no horizontal runs it will fall with its own weight. If there is horizontal we use a plumbers tape to pull the spinner along. If the spinner stays to one side too much, change the direction by turning the tips the opposite direction. We apply degreaser with the spinner and of course rinse.

Since you have an access door at the forth floor you will be able to see if your cleaning to the metal surface. No need to put a man in the duct.

How about the old duct tape the video camera on a line with a bright light?
Im shure it would work and it would be alot more cost effective.

Brought to you by. Red Neck solutions.
