Vacuum Barrels

The connector you require is called a "Cabtire" connector. Has a rubber grommet inside that compresses as you tighten. Also get the box seals for these.

I got mine at Home Depot, forgot what they call them but they are in the electrical section.

Making your own vacuum or recovery rig?

Yeah I already had the vacuum, it's a Dayton 1VGH2 I got it from a pawn shop here for $99.00. It cost $950.00 at Grainger. I found the Barrel on Craigs List for $20.00. It has the removable top with a seal in it. It was used for Canola oil. I got all the plumbing parts at a local hardware store for $30.00. I'll post a pic when I get the sump pump worked out.

You gotta love pawn shops!

Sometimes pawn shops have some great deals.

I would put in a vacuum breaker in the drum, most drums are made to hold product, not be under vacuum and most will collapse easily. Hate to see your vacuum drum collapse like an empty coke can, they do under vacuum so be careful.

You know what would be nice would be a sandwhiching type vac hose bulkhead with an electrical portion off to the side... but in mean time it would be nice to know of a source for either on their own. Last 2" vac thing I messed with was just a male end with a flange that I mounted up underneith a swing machine for dust containment.

Strain Relief

Anyone know where to get the airtight electical connectors used on a vacuum barrel with a sump pump in it?? I can't seem to find any.

WW Grainger part numbers 5D884 & 5D885, Description: Strain Relief Connector, Two sizes are for different size wire sizes. They are made of corrosion resistant nylon. You can add silicone gasket sealant if you wish. List Price: $8.30

Those are exactly what I found at City Electric in Arlington for $2.50 each, they work great.

Thanks though.

Nice work, looks good.

You may want to secure the sump somehow, when you are traveling down the road it will bounce around and more that likely break some of those fittings or the float.

Yeah I have two small projects left to to. One is to weld some tabs inside to secure the pump and the other is to weld a divider plate between the inlet and outlet on the lid.
