I am going to start offering ice dam removal and want to go with the steam route instead of just using low pressure and hot water,How do i make my hot water machine push steam?or can I?Thanks for any help in advance.I'm trying to be up and running by monday(hopefully)

Does your machine have a thermostat/high limit switch, and if so what level are they set? Can you do steam, sure but your machine will really determine how easy it is going to be to do. Post your machine specs so we can let you know better what you can do. Burner btu's will be helpfull as well.

my buddy has the machine we still have to dig it out, thtas todays project.once we get to it we'll have some specs. If water temps goes higher than 250 it should be able to make steam?.. An Ice dam is a buildup of ice in the gutters and backs water up into the house when it melts

Ice Dam Removal.. cutting ice fast

Cutting Chunks at 270degrF. is FasterThan "melting" every bit at 300+dgrF. ..
at 280der.F the spray turnsFrom pressurizedWater with steam in it,
to steam with some water in it..
Using a 0 degree nozzle with 500psi blasts like a laser, at distance..
works muchBetterThan a cushion of steam at "upClose and personal".
you will see.

SAFETY TIP #373 -
be sure you are using "combo hose" and an open-flow gun..
Controlling heat at 250+dgrF. is much trickier.
Also, you mightWantTo use tarps to guide water awayFrom reforming ice onThe sidewalks.

We've built several systems for this.

Anyone with one of our BullDogPRO pressureWashers..
can change 1 simple part, and have safe, reliable SteamyPressure for $$ iceDams $$
..and the fastest removal of gum from sidewalks you have EVER seen !

I agree with Jerry. Though I've never used true steam, I have hooked a little electric pw (1.6gpm, 1600 psi) to my burner and used a 0004 nozzle (0 degree 600ish psi), and it cut blocks out of 8 inch thick ice really really fast. I made sure I wasn't getting over 250 F cause that was the limit on my hoses. I used a thermometer for this, not a thermostat. Not all flow switches (on the burner) can operate at both 6.5 gpm and 1.5 gpm, but mine did. Jerry, is an open flow gun the same as a dump gun and how does that work with flow switches, electric on-demand power washers, and user safety (ie accidentally dropping a wand)?

I got out of the ice dam removal years ago. Too many liabilities.

thank you i just learned alot.Got machine out and it's a power America 1315N it's a 220 unit so Ill be carrying a generator but unit only has 36 hrs on it.Have to go sanding parking lots in the morning then going to try my new machine out on my kids house
