I use a rubber apron, neoprene gloves, and splash goggles when handling dangerous chemicals. I don't handle anything so noxious that I require a respiratory filter.

Save money and "Borrow"
When I use just bleach my safety equipment consists of Shorts, sandels and a t-shirt.
But in the winter time and when I use harsher chemicals I use a suit which a friend of mine from Bellsouth lets me "borrow" It's this suit right here. It isn't Waterproof but it repels water and it is made to repel dangerous chemicals. I use it with some Chemical boots a buddy of mine let me have from his old job with fertilizers. I also where safety goggles. Which I purchased on my own. It works well too. It's loose and doesn't get too warm. But does keep you somewhat warm in the winter-time.
But if you can just go up to some Bell or phone worker and ask them if they have any. Usually they have no problem giving them away. They are Union so they can't get fired.

People may think this is nuts but I clean vent hoods in a pair of jeans and a t- shirt this is why... When you get caustic on yourself the best thing to do is wash it right off. I watched a guy get caustic in his rain suitand by the time he got all his protective wear off to wash himself he already had a chemical burn..
Well thats my 2 cent's I got to go I have 2 hood cleanings tonight all by myself DAMN!!!! Sick employees...
