Unemployment

Does anyone keep their employees over winter by placing them on unemployment? I did it last year for one of my guys and it worked out pretty well. He was still allowed to work a partial schedule, which was fine since that was all we could work anyway.

What do you do with your employees in winter?

Hello Mike,

My crew leader has been with me for almost 14 years. I pay him 40 hours per week year round plus overtime. Yes there are times he is paid to sit at home, but he also does many (fix it up) things with our equipment and in our shop. I will try to post a picture of one of his winter projects. Painted our trailer.

In answer to another one of your posts about winter work. Check with industrial plants in your area. Most have shutdowns during holiday periods. We have had over the years several 4-5 figure projects during plant shutdowns both summer and winter. Most of the time all of this work is all inside!
