Tornado Clean-Up Windsor, Colorado

So Windsor Colorado is just about an hour north of us here in Denver, roughly 60miles. I am not sure if many of you know, but they had a horrible tornado go through the town yesterday morning and continue on through northern colorado and into wyoming.

We have started getting calls for exterior house cleaning clean up - because of all the mud and debris that was thrown onto the houses from the wind and the twister itself. Mostly the calls are coming from nearby cities that didnt sustain any real damange to their houses, only the violent winds and flying mud.

My dilema here is if I should just spend all of next week up in that area flyering. I just feel horrible for these people and hate to have them think we are taking advantage of them. They need the service, but I dont want to look like a vulture.

As we all know, contractors come out of the woodwork anytime there is a tornado that causes damage.

Suggestions.

If you go up and price gouge you are a vulture. If you charge your normal rates plus some travel and/or fuel surcharge you are providing a much needed service. Get up there and get some work.

I would stick to the outer areas first, because there are lots of volunteers and volunteer contractors in the heart of the areas hit the worst helping clean up and if you went in there now, you would be procieved as a vulture. Plus those areas are closed off and the major roads into Windsor are closed also. Try contacting the local governments, maybe they can put your name out there for people. Below is a link to the loveland paper and it listed some contact numbers. Not sure people will be willing to anything either until they get squared away with insurance claims. Windsor is the next town NE of Loveland where I live about 10 miles away. Yesterday was a crazy day around here, lots of funnel clouds and tornado touch downs, but that one that went through Windsor was about a mile wide and very unusual for us. It passed by the other place I work at during the week, a few miles to the east of us without us ever knowing. I would go after that work but working one job M-F and washing on weekends with a full schedule all ready, doesn't leave much free time, but if you do it and get overloaded and want some help call me. There are lots of little guys around here along with Top Gun, I'm guessing they will be over there also.

Yeah, we wouldnt go into the area until Tuesday anyway. My husband works at a trucking company full time in Commerce City, alot of the people that work there live in Dacono, Johnstown, Milliken and Windsor and they have been asking him all day to get his rig up there next week.

I hate these a**hole contractors that go in and take advantage of these people. The good thing about pressure washing is they dont pay until AFTER the work is done. We will actually keep the same pricing we would here in the metro area, but I would have to have 3 houses lined up to roll up that way.

I know lots of people that live over there but none of them were in the area that got hit, fortunatly. Definitely a delicate situation, if I hear of anyone looking, I'll pass your name on to them.

Nicole,

If it were the town you lived in, I might say volunteer a little. ...But it isn't, so I wouldn't.

Look, insurance $$ will be paying for some of your service. But here's the thing: you are providing a service THAT THEY REALLY NEED!!! And you are going to do them a great and fair job, right?? What more discount do they need?!?! You are solving their problem, and getting paid for it. Did the want the tornado to sling mud on their home? NO! ...And I don't like when the darn trees drop pollen onto my deck and siding! But that is nature, and you make a living cleaning up after Mother Nature.

I say go advertise, and be proud you are doing it because NOBODY is going to provide for these folks better than you are! You are going to help them! You are helping the tornado recovery. And you should be getting paid your out-of-town rates to do it as well.
