Time Machine - For Geezers only.

I thought this would be a fun thread. There's a new radio station in town that plays old songs (old for most of you guys, seems like yesterday for geezers like me!) Everytime I hear a song on the station it brings up old memories. How about bringing up some old tunes and the memories that go along with them. I'll start, You guys can either laugh and make fun of me or join in. It's your choice! :)

Here's the first. 1985. Just graduated Electricians Mate "A" School and stationed in Alameda California on the USS Carl Vinson in Alameda California. Listening to this and getting my perfectly groomed thick head of center parted hair combed then jumping in my newly acquired 1985 PONTIAC FIERO!!!!!!! Bought with this new thing called credit! (for Waaaaaay too much money and 13.5%!!!!!!!!!!!) ..... on my way out on the town to hit the clubs in San Francisco all alone to see what I got.

Waking up in the morning looking out the window of an apartment at Columbus and Broadway realizing my car has been towed and I have to run to take the train to the base. I kiss "whatever her name is" goodbye and head for the Bart station to try to make it to morning muster on time. This song plays in my head all the way.

Come on guys don't leave me stranded here. Surely there were some more dorks like me back in those days!

In spite of my bad decisions in the past, God has left me with priceless memories tied to every date in my life. I'll never forget the feeling of overwhelming confidence I had in those days of the sunrise of my life.

I'm thankful for that.

Where were you when this song was playing? (NOTE: if you weren't born yet, I don't need a picture to let me know where you were.....I took an anatomy class!)

One more: 1986, Uss Carl Vinson: Interior portions of Top Gun were filmed on our ship. This was the first time I'd ever seen Tom Cruise. He was complaining about eating with these "peons" on the enlisted mess. I thought "what a little short azz punk" and wanted to punch him. I had no idea he was famous. If I had, I probably would have punched him. (I was like that in those days). I watched this movie on a double date at the drive-in. Me in my FIERO and my friend in his FIAT X9 (or whatever it was) Anyway, that's the memory that goes with this one!

Come on Nick! Ron where are you? Terry Campbell? Scott Stone? Help me out here! (It's my Saturday night - I'm just having fun!)

Now for something completely different.

1990something: South Dakota nightclub (the only one in town) Shelly and I (probably engaged by now) sweating like a MO doing whatever we're doing in bubbles up to our necks on the dance floor (do any of you geezers remember bubbles on the dance floor?) P90X didn't have nothing on this workout!!!!

Larry where you at? I know you worked the bubbles in the club man!

This all seems like yesterday!

Last one: I promise - This one is for Jeff (another geezer) Shelly and took a 3000 mile three week honeymoon (From Sioux Falls) . We forgot to bring cd's. This one was in our player so we heard a LOT of it on our trip. This music was conducive to a LOT of stops along the way from in the Mountains in Colorado to secluded areas on the beach in Malibu to a seedy hotel in Vegas. This one brings back memories of cruising down the strip in a 1992 Celica bassin' out with Shelly taking videos through the sunroof with a video camera in one hand and a screwdriver (not the tool) in the other.

If you can keep up with this music then you deserve a woman like Shelly. And you guys all wondered how I married up so well!

I'm having too much fun tonight!

Jeff as much as you hit the clubs you've got to remember this one!

I remember these. Not from the same stages of life though...lol The two club songs were played at my middle school dances. Highway to the Danger Zone was our GA-935 AFJROTC theme song. :)

I don't remember much of anything between the ages of 11 thu 38. Hahaha!

they refer to them as foam party's these days grandpa! And for some reason after a foam party your cloths and shoes smell so bad you never want to wear them again.

Wow.......I was living in Las Vegas then - husband stationed at Nellis AFB with the Thunderbirds. Had my first daughter there that summer....she's given me two beautiful granddaughters and is active duty AF herself now in Florida.

HA! I have actually seen these guys in concert! They were with Cool and the Gang a few years ago at Chastain Park in ATL. Funny thing was...the front row was nothing but gay men once he hit the stage! lol
