Time away after NINE years

Tony Shelton

BS Detector, Esquire
For the first time in nine years Shelly and I were able to take some time away without kids, family members, temporary house guests or anybody.

This trip served to reaffirm my deep love for my wife after all these years. It was like there was never a nine year gap of time without being alone.

When I look at Shelly I still see the same girl I married over 13 years ago.

If anything we've become much closer, much more forgiving and much more understanding of each other over those years. That made this trip all the more special.

There was some work involved. We spent two days shadowing Ron and his top salesman. This is Shelly's first time in sales after 10 years of running her own business and, as usual, Ron was willing to help us out.

I'd like to take this opportunity to explain my loyalty and friendship with Ron. I doubt there is anyone here who has spent more nights in a hotel room with Ron. I doubt there is anyone here who has spent more hours on the road with him. We've been accused of logging in under false names because his name comes up with my IP address because he's using the WIFI at MY house!

I've heard all the complaints. I've listened to all the stories. I've listened to exaggerated stories about Ron when the teller of the story had no idea I was sitting right next to Ron when the conversation in question was going on!

Bottom line is this. Ron is one the the best things this industry has going for it. He's generous, boisterous, outgoing, loud, caring, and is a progressive thinker. He is the ULTIMATE little guy in this business. He may not push a wand, but he knows what pushing a wand is like. He can identify with most guys unlike any other "big guy" in the business.

Lou said it best at lunch Friday. He said something to the effect of "Everytime I get together with Ron, it seems like he's really a good guy" (or something similar to that)

YES he is. Give him a phone call and get to know him. He's a human being just like you and me. He makes mistakes, just like you and me. The only difference is, his mistakes get publicized and told over and over again in the background until his reputation looks nothing like the real man.

If you find yourself on the tail end of a fight with Ron, call him up and find out why. Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes of heart to heart to heal problems.

I'm proud to be a friend of Rons.

And Ron. Thank you again.

Lunch was great. My son's comments:
1: Was that one guy insane, or just off his meds? My response, "Nah, he is a hood rat..."
2: You just proved it to me again that any guy can get a beautiful wife, if he treats her decently...Really, those pictures did not do Shelley justice.
3. Ron wasn't nearly as loud as I was expecting.

Lunch was great.

Great video Tony. I hope to be able to do something like that with my Stephanie some day. Thanks for sharing!

That is great that you spent some special time together, that is really special!

I agree about Ron, too many people out there want to spread lies and crap about him but when you get to know Ron, you know that those people out there just don't know him and you tell them to call him and find out the truth when they don't believe you. He has done a lot for this industry, given out a lot of great advice which has never let me down and has helped me a lot in my own business.

Thanks Ron!!!

I have only one question:

Nine years waiting for a well deserved getaway with your wife away from the kids, work, household chores etc. and you choose to spend it with RON! What were you thinking man?

I'm not sure how or if I should respond to this.

I do know I got a few restaurants to knock out and some Bobcat meat to pick up.....YUMMM

Good lunch Tony

No need to respond Lou, Scott's kids have led very sheltered lives. The other day was the closest contact any of them has had with a man with hair past his ears.

Just put your white shirt and tie back on, get your bike and get back to work Lou!

For the writeoff man! You think I'm going anywhere without a writeoff? If there's anything I learned from Jim Gamble it's how to find a writeoff in anything. Jim has a clock on his wall in the kitchen where he clocks in before breakfast so he can eat on "company time" and write it off.

Seriously though, I've wasted a lot of money with the "motivational" speakers, long courses in selling, etc. But two days with Ron is like a marketing degree crash course.

Of course Ron now owns all the income my wife generates, my grandchildren and 10% of my great grandchildren, but hey, screw em, if I didn't have time like this alone with my wife none of them would be in this world anyway!:dirol:

Realistically we had to do this. Shelly was like a fish out of water in sales and she needed guidance. She's gung ho now and I don't think I'm going to get a rest for a long time with her this motivated.
