Tile Roof Cleaning at Night

I have done a lot of work at nite but only 2 roofs that I finished after dark.
Get the floodlights and generator and keep the place lit up so you can see. If you can secure the flood lights or tripods to the truck/trailer then when you move you don't have to worry about moving the lights and messing with the extension cords.
Make sure that there is not a sound ordinance, some places you can't run gas powered equipment after 10pm or before 7am, that is what it is here.
Have someone go around and check for missed spots, your eyes might not catch something you have been looking at so much all nite, I do this with the helpers, I have them double check the work.
Are you walking the roof or is it a roof that is mostly like a wall coming down at an angle?
If you are walking a roof, I would make sure that the whole area is very well lit up, multiple light tripods and a few generators for the electricity and have a helper watching out for you, a lot more dangerous at nite.

I have done tons of night work but never a roof at night. I am with KJ, Utilize the night for dwell time and like Chris said hook up the lights! I would be weary of walking any roof with mix on it at night, I would suggest you do it from a lift.

I agree with the guys above. I know that Nick and Kory have done it on shopping centers. You just need to use a strong mix and give it a bit more time to dwell. Depending on the severity you may need a second coat of mix or at the very least some spot treating but that is normal even during the day. I also agree with the non walking part. Using a lift bucket or shooting from the Roof line would be the best way.

We were out doing tile roof cleaning for Walgreens the other night when my wallet was stolen from my truck!!
We use the same mix as a Residential Roof, we have lights hooked up to the bucket lift and we drive around and hit it from above, no rinse needed.
It takes us about 45min to do the tile roofs at a Walgreen's.

I did a tile roof on a shopping plaza at night... the parking lot was well lit. Me and a helper had head lamps and I worked from the flat rolled shingle roof behind the tile canopy.
This one was really dirty - 2 applications and rinse required.
If I was to do one again - a lift and worklights like Nick described would be a lot more efficient.

Thank you guys, I was thinking that the lights in the shopping plaza would be enought. But I will add lights I would rather be over prepared. going with a 40 or 45 eletric boom lift from a rental company. I will make sure they have eletric plugs in them to run my lights in the bucket. I am going to sureflow the roof so it should be very quite. PM said he will let me know in 30 days. I only talked twice with this guy, and got his phone # off a empty store building.
I called him, he told me he was all set with pw. I said I could see how dirty the roof was from the road and would be soft washing your tile roof not pressure washing. Again he said he was all set. Then called me 10min later and asked me for a estimate. I will let you know if he goes with the bid. Thank you again

The roof is a stripe mall that is L shaped. I could hit it from the ground but they have a large grocey store in it. That is where the roof is up about 3 floors and as long a the grocey store. So I should be able to do this in one night. I going out Monaday to measure it, it is long. They have a flat roof behind the tile roof. Along the strip mall the tile only goes up about maybe 10ft. So that should be fast. I will wash it twice then rinse good till moring.

Try to go .15 a sq ft on that, if you need a hand with it, i have a lift truck and we are on your side of FL every 2months, we will be back over there in april..

I was going in with a bid about .12 to .14 plus the cost of a lift for 2 days. I see how the demo goes

If you go .15 tell him you will supply the lift at no extra cost? A good lift would add a min of $400.00 to the job or more for 1 night.
We can do this job in 1 night and make it more proffitable. This is only 23,100 sq ft of roof @ .15 = $3465.00
Nice pay day for 1 nights work.

My game plan would be the following. Land the bid. This guy is cheap he told me over the phone. I belive him, he quoted the price of which he is getting all the sidewalks done.
Rent a lift, two guys in the lift one runs it and aims the lights. The other is spraying.
3rd guy is on the ground is taping, off moving hoses and truck, and telling people to get away.
I will be doing the building in 1/4
or 300 ft at a time then I will go back and hit it a 2nd time.
When I get 3/4 done I will go and look to see if we miss anything. If it looks good,then I will send the guy on the ground to start rising at the begining.
I will send the guy in the bucket to start rising at some point on the high peaks.

I do some 24 hour banks at night. Use a lift with tripods on the lift to light the roof surface you are treating. Easiest and least expensive.
