The Barber Mystery may be solved

Here are some pics I took of the concrete where the barber had the "shaving" problem.

We couldn't understand why there was a problem with cream on the back and one side of the building and not on the front and the other side.

Take a close look at the point where the two sections meet. The SMOOTH side (on the left and the middle triangle in the last picture is the concrete that "shed" cream. The concrete that looks more like agregate did not shed cream. Is this just crappy concrete?

I think so Tony. Thats what my driveway looks like, and I tore it up on accident one day. oops.

The smooth side is new concrete, poured long after the other.

Sometime during finishing, the job will get away from you. Ie: The Concrete starts to setup before you are ready, It waits on no one. When this happens they will add water to the top to force the cream up. But this weakens the the finish layer by adding water. This is just a cosmetic fix. It looks good, but is weak. Working and finishing concrete is an art and timing is everything.

Crockett and Travis were looking out over the Alamo wall one morning and saw Santa Anna's Troops. Crockett said to Travis, Are we pouring concrete today?
