Terminology?

AZ PowerWash Pros

New member
When speaking with customers do you guys say power washing or pressure washing? Or both? Which term do you prefer to use?

When I speak with my customers I usually go with whichever term they are using at that time, but I tend to say pressure wash more than power wash.

Also, which would you use for parking lot sweeping? Lot sweeping, power sweeping, or street sweeping?Just wondering... We have been adding more lot sweeping to our company lately so wondering what term most of you use...

Any thoughts....?

I always said powerwash but the big term around here is softwash not only in roofs but houses to. Kathy is always saying we powerwash with minimal pressure on the house so I guess you can say we use both power and pressure in the same sentence.

We rent sweepers for the parking garages and refer that as Parking garage sweeping.. But we haven't ventured out to parking lots. I would think the most common term there is parking lot sweeping or lot sweeping. Not sure because we don't do it.

You will find in the northeast power wash is the norm while in the south it is pressure wash. Some places it is pretty much a 50/50 split. It all depends on where you are located. The search terms for the state can be opposite what they are for a local city also.

Around here the term is Pressure Washing. However I have people call and ask if we do pressure washing and can we do it without using to much pressure. It then becomes a education moment.

My customers use power washing, so that is what I use.

In florida I used Pressure Cleaning...I used it when I moved to Houston but everyone here called it Pressure Washing so I Had to slowly change. i always like pressure cleaning because I explained to people that I clean....you can wash something and it not get cleaned...

I just had this discussion with Chuck Bergman. Pressure wash is a Southern thing. Folks in Fla may want to target "power wash" keywords for snowbirds who are with winter homes. I dont think Ive ever once had someone ask me to "pressure wash" anything. "Soft-wash" is gaining ground and that's a great thing. Love it someone needs their home "soft-washed". Only once have I had someone ask me if we also fold the laundry when we're done washing it, he was in Cali.

When a customer calls and asks for I "pressure" or "power" wash service,..I change the terminology to house "washing" or roof "cleaning",..and elaborate from there,..I like to keep the word "pressure" or "power" out of the conversation. But I will use when I explain concrete cleaning.

Never use the term WATER BLAST for sure. Always refer to soft wash for the home and elaborate that the principal that I use is low pressure high volume and brushing where practical. Only ever refer to pressure washing when talking flat surface cleaning.

When I check my rankings on Google, it seems that I get more results for contractors when I search pressure cleaning and more results for equipment when I put in pressure washing.

I think it's more of a regional thing. Like a few guys here have posted, Power Washing seems to be more common in the northern states and Pressure Cleaning/Washing the farther south you go.
