Tankless water heater?

I dont know anything about the hot water rigs, but I keep seeing everyones with these big hot water tanks. Then the other day I was at the hardware store in the water heater section and noticed they had the tankless water heaters, capable of up to 9.4 GPM!! Anyone thought of this yet? If so, whats the pros and cons? It seems like it would take alot less room. Thanks

That is not a bad idea, however, they only heat non pressurized water.
Most PW pumps can not handle hot water being ran through them without ruining the packing in them. You can get hot water seal kits for some pumps though.
Maybe the burner makers could take some pointers from them. I think the traditional burners we have now are highly inefficient.

You probably already know this Scott but you said those of us with big hot water tanks, The tanks are merely for hauling water and have nothing to do with heating it. Thats all done in the coils.

No i understand what the BIG tanks are for. Ive got a 325 and 125 on my tailer. I meant the water heater tanks. I was thinking of hooking a tankless up after my water tank and before my PW, but I diont think it can handle the heat. Then I thought I could hook it up after the PW, but it wouldnt be able to handle 4000psi. I guess I could buy a hot water pump, what does just a pump like that cost? Am I even on the right track here for this?? or is this kinda impossible?

This is what you need Scott. Your typical tankless water heater is not going to create the temperature rise that a hot box will, and hot water is not good for your pump anyway.

Scott,
What you think is a water tank is actually a furnace with a coil inside it.

The flame from the burner heats the coil and the water is in the coil under pressure.

It is not a tank, it is a housing with a coil and flame inside.

It is really a hot water on demand system, almost like the one you're looking at but made to handle pressurized water.

Scott,

The only one I know of that heats the water before the pump is Dave Olson. If you get a hold of him he can tell you what kind of pump can handle the hot water.

Pressure washers already have Tankless water heaters.
They are Coils not tanks.
You dont have a bunch of water inside all the time.
That is why they don't run out of hot water.
They are heat on demand under high pressure.
The other ones coppied ours to use in their design.

How about a Pool Heater Heats about 50 gpm.

could you put the pool heater in side of a tank if so how long would it take to heat it up?

No the unit is larger than your tank, and is the same as a burner system for a pw just larger to handle the increased flow from a pool.

Dave Olsen does not heat the water before the pump, he heats it like everyone else after, and uses a very large system to do it.
