i just bought a 200 gallon water tank and wanna no what i need to run it with my pressure washer i tried to hook it up and i didnt get no results its lije the water wasnt getting there , once i hooked it up to a water faucet everything worked perfect so how can i get it to work in case an area i go to doesnt have a water hook up

How long is the hose going from the tank to the machine? Also how big in diameter is that hose? A direct drive pump has the pump mounted to a flange that bolts to the engine. A belt drive pump will have belts and pulleys. A gear driven pump will have the pump hooked to a gearbox and the gearbox is mounted on the engine. Direct drive pumps turn at such a high rpm that it doesn't get good suction. One more thing, when you hooked it up to the tank was your tank higher then your machine? If your machine is higher then the tank then it will have problems pulling the water.

you prob

have air trapped in the supply line off the tank.
Your pump wont pull air.
A direct drive cant be more then 5 inc higher then the outlet on the tank.
A belt drive can be 5 ft above the tank outlet.
Niether can do anything if their is air in the supply line.
You should install a CHECK VALVE just before the pump head.
Also dont forget an in-line water filter.

i kind of understand the replies but i kind of dont if anyone can call me and tell me over the phone it might make things easier my number is 757-358-1571
THANKS

Contact your pressure washer source and ask them what you have.

Usually how things work is when you want information from someone you call them. You won't find too many poeple who will call you to give information. Although Dave Olsen did call me to give me info and I want to thank him for that. Not too many people will do that. I can' tafford to be paying $300 phone bills every month. So if you ever want to talk you can feel free to call me.

Looks like I missed out on this discussion all together. Howcome No one asks me on the problem board about these things!? I don't agree on the direct drive pumps not working as well. I took one and put a 25 ft hose on it and lifted the hose as high as I could above my head coiled up and the darn thing still pulled water out of a 5 gallon bucket. That statement is not true. The pump does not care. Now if there is a hole in that hose and air is drawn in with the stream then it will have problems sucking water. Tf the packings or valves are weak in the pump then there could be a problem. Direct drive, Belt drive, Gear drive makes no difference. Air sucked in to water makes a difference. And some people don't understand that a machine with a float tank will not pull water unless you bypass the float tank. Just use the float inside of your big tank and eliminate the float tank. The only time there will be a problem is when the manufacture uses a vacuum switch. then you have to find the restrictor and use it in the line that pulls the water out of the big tank.

When I first started I used a direct drive pump without an inline pump and found that the seals and check valves would not hold up for me. I added the pump and that was the last time I had any problems. Personally I would rather use the inline than replace parts.

Bottom line!
Belt Drive Pumps Rule!

direct drive with float tank

Prioritywash,
I have used a float tank on different direct drive pumps. 2.2gpm, 5.5gpm, 4gpm Ive done all with good success. I have found that the pump needs to be close, at the same level or below the water tank. This way there is some gravity feed to the pump and it will prime. Up stream injectors seemed to have trouble with this because of the vacuum draw. But a down stream injector works just fine. I didnt use a check valve or anything. Just used a inline filter before the pump. Make sure all conections are tight. The slightest air leak can really give you fits. I have used both kinds of unloaders, pressure trap and flow activated, with this setup. Hope this all helps.
